Note from the Principal:

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Thank you all so much for your patience as we worked out our drop off and dismissal lines last week. By the end of the week, with the help of clear skies, our pick-up line finished up by 3:15 which is our target time to get all of the students into cars.

During the next two weeks, our students are beginning their math and reading diagnostic assessments in iReady. These diagnostics will give us important data to determine where all of our students are academically, so we can adjust our instruction to meet their academic needs.

Please be sure to read the Curriculum Corner below. This month's corner provides you information about the curriculum materials we use at Palm Bay.

I hope you all have a great month. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me through email or by phone.

Sincerely,

Patty Phillips

Curriculum Corner

All of our instruction follows the Florida State Standards and will be modified when the new B.E.S.T. standards are put into place. For our K-6, we utilize one of the most innovative English Language Arts (Reading) and Math curricula. Our curriculum is purchased through Great Minds. Our ELA curriculum is called Wit & Wisdom. With Wit & Wisdom, every text a student touches is authentic and of the highest quality. Students use these texts at every turn — to learn, and eventually master, essential reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, and vocabulary. Our math curriculum, Eureka Math, equates mathematical concepts to stories, with the aim of developing conceptual understanding. It encourages students to use various mental strategies to solve problems, and to focus on the process instead of the answer. We also use Ready and iReady. Ready is a skills practice tool our teachers use for both reading and math. iReady is a computer-based program that is used at school for skill practice and enrichment and can also be used at home for additional reading and math practice. We have purchased a new science curriculum this year, Generation Genius, which provides fun educational videos, activities and material that align with FL standards. Social Studies standards are integrated into our ELA program throughout the year.
