Hello Locke Hill Families!

Each month our guidance lessons focus on one of our four skill goals and can include discussions, presentations, books, tools, and crafts that students can take away to use in their classrooms or at home. Our Four Skill Goals are Intrapersonal Relationships, Interpersonal Relationships, Post-secondary Planning & Career Readiness, and Personal Health & Safety. This month guidance lessons will cover Interpersonal Relationships and Personal Health & Safety, which will cover friendship skills, empathy, coping strategies, and healthy choices.

NISD Decision of Respect Day - October 2nd

Locke Hill held our annual Decision of Respect Signing Day during your student's guidance lessons at the end of September. Students across the campus pledged to demonstrate respect for themselves and all others through their interactions at school. Decision of Respect Day is an opportunity for classmates to think about what it means to be respectful in the way they interact with others. It also serves as a reminder to the school and community that the district is committed to providing students and staff a safe and respectful environment.

Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week will be celebrated October 26th-30th. It is a drug, alcohol, and violence prevention week that is celebrated in honor of fallen DEA special agent Enrique Camerena in 1985. The purpose of this week is to bring awareness to students and their families the benefits they can receive when they live a healthy lifestyle. We want to celebrate the benefits of what a healthy lifestyle can bring us such as healthy bodies and healthy minds. The daily dress flyer is below.

Healthy Habits for Kids

Childhood is a great time to help your child develop healthy habits. The sooner in life we build good, healthy habits, the easier it is to keep them and stay as healthy as possible.

One important thing to remember is that you are your child's role model. Your habits affect your children's habits.

If your habits are healthy—eating a variety of healthy foods, getting regular exercise, and practicing healthy thinking, for example—your children are more likely to build those habits in their own lives.

Here are four areas where you can help build good, lifelong habits for your child.

  • Healthy eating. Help your child learn healthy eating habits, how to make healthy snacks, and ways to make healthy choices when you eat out.
  • Regular physical activity. Encourage your child to find activities that are right for their lifestyle and personality. You could also find ways to be active as a family.
  • Staying safe and healthy. Teach your child how to take good care of their teeth, how to sleep well, and how to prevent injuries from sports and other activities.
  • Healthy thinking. Help your child build a healthy body image, self-esteem, and social skills. You can also help them learn how to cope with stress and learn coping strategies.
