ELA
This Week in ELA:
This week, students had the opportunity to read "All Summer in a Day" by Ray Bradbury in a Reader’s Theater format. It was so much fun watching students instantly transform into actors as they brought the story to life through dramatic reading and performance. Students also dove deeply into the story’s powerful themes of bullying, jealousy, and the preciousness of fleeting moments.
Ray Bradbury (1920–2012) was an American writer known for his works of horror and science fiction. In Bradbury’s short story “All Summer in a Day,” the inhabitants of Venus live underground to avoid falling victim to the constant onslaught of rain. Only once every seven years does the rain stop and the sun come out. Set in an elementary school classroom, a group of children await the sun’s arrival. Only one of the kids, a girl named Margot who spent the first four years of her life on Earth, recalls the appearance of the sun. Rather than appreciating her knowledge, the other children in the class grow jealous and mean.
