Get ready for an evening filled with excitement, laughter, and pride as the Ross Ragland Theater hosts the annual Mr. Pelican Pageant on April 12 at 7 p.m. This eagerly anticipated event will showcase the talents of nine exceptional Klamath Union High School students, promising a spectacle the whole family can enjoy.

The Mr. Pelican Pageant has become a beloved tradition in Klamath Falls, and this year's production promises to be no exception. Audiences can expect to be dazzled by the talents of KUHS's finest young men as they compete for the coveted title of Mr. Pelican. From dazzling performances to hilarious skits, this year's pageant is sure to leave audiences roaring with laughter and buzzing with excitement.

Ticket prices for the event are $15 for adults, $10 for students, seniors, and active military, and children under 10 are free. Purchase your ticket at the Ross Ragland Theater box office, or www.ragland.org.

In addition to providing a night of entertainment, the Mr. Pelican Pageant serves a greater purpose by raising funds for worthy charities and families in the Klamath Falls community.

This year, funds raised by the KUHS student leadership class will be donated to Klamath Hospice and Palliative Care's grief camps, Camp Sapling and Camp Evergreen.

These camps provide much-needed support and comfort to individuals and families coping with loss in the Klamath Basin and Northern California.

"We are thrilled to support Klamath Hospice and Palliative Care and their important work," said Rhiannon Kerr, KUHS ASB advisor. "By attending the Mr. Pelican Pageant, not only will audiences enjoy a fantastic show, but they will also be contributing to a cause that has a meaningful impact on our community."

The success of the Mr. Pelican Pageant is only possible with the generous support of our sponsors. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Ross Ragland Theater, Sons of Norway Roald Lodge 2-39, and Shaffer Electric for their continued generosity and commitment to our community.

Don't miss your chance to be a part of this unforgettable event! Join us at the Ross Ragland Theater on April 12 at 7 p.m. for fun, laughter, and philanthropy.

Tylenol

Tylenol is more of a pain reducer and fever reducer than it is an anti-inflammatory. It works in a different way from ibuprofen but also affects cell signaling molecules called prostaglandins. When you are injured or sick prostaglandins will be produced in the area of the injury causing swelling. In the short-term fluid that causes swelling, which is made-up of nutrient rich fluid and white blood cells, is helpful to clean up the damaged tissues. Prostaglandins also travel to the brain to tell you that there is pain and that you should not use that area. Ibuprofen, which is an anti-inflammatory, works in the periphery to decrease the production of prostaglandins. This will not only reduce pain but also will reduce swelling. Tylenol works primarily in the brain, meaning it does not decrease swelling, but it does decrease pain and decrease fevers, which are triggered in the hypothalamus section of the brain. Importantly, Tylenol can be taken in addition to ibuprofen. Because they work on the same pathway but in different locations you can even take them both at the same time. The commonly held belief that you cannot take Tylenol and ibuprofen at the same time comes from the recommendation to parents to give their child ibuprofen staggered with Tylenol every four hours. This recommendation is made simply so that parents have something to do every four hours instead of having to wait the full 8 hours between doses.

You can give both Tylenol and ibuprofen up to three times a day, and if you stagger them, you can do something six times a day, which is nice when you have a sick child to whom you are constantly paying attention. For adults who can administer their own medications it is much more convenient to take something only two to three times a day as opposed to four to six times a day. Finally, it is worth noting that the most common cause of fevers uncontrolled by Tylenol or ibuprofen in children is underdosing of the ibuprofen and Tylenol. Appropriate dosing changes by weight until the child weighs at least 95 pounds, so as your child gains weight their dose changes as well. If your child weighs 10 pounds more than the last time you gave them medication, they may be able to take double the amount of Tylenol or ibuprofen than you used to give them.
