Principal's Message
Dear Mustang Families,
October is off to a great start here at Maple! Our Mustangs are showing care and consideration for one another in so many ways—helping friends, taking turns, and looking out for their classmates. It’s a wonderful reminder of how kindness and respect help our school community feel safe and connected.
As we continue into the month, we’re also taking time to talk about being prepared and making safe choices, both at school and at home. On Thursday, October 16 at 10:16 a.m., Maple will participate in the Great American ShakeOut, a statewide earthquake preparedness drill. This practice helps everyone know what to do in the event of an emergency and reinforces calm, confident responses.
Next week, October 13–17, is Parent–Teacher Conference Week. Students will be released at 12:30 p.m. each day, and ELOP and after-school child care will continue as usual. If your child already participates in ELOP or district childcare, those programs will start at 12:30, otherwise, you need to make arrangements to pick your child up each day next week at 12:30. There will not be supervision during conferences. If you need to bring your child with you to your conference, they need to wait outside the room-- the yard will be for our district programs. Conferences are a great time to celebrate your child’s progress and set goals for the months ahead. Thank you for making time to partner with teachers and strengthen that home-school connection.
As mornings grow cooler, please make sure jackets and lunchboxes are labeled. Our Lost & Found fills up quickly this time of year!
Thank you for continuing to support Maple’s positive, caring spirit. The way our students greet one another, follow routines, and show respect makes this a special place to learn and grow.
With Mustang Pride,
Meghann O’Weger
Principal, Maple Elementary

Food Deliveries
We have seen an increase in food deliveries for students. To be clear, our office staff CANNOT manage daily food drop offs for students. We cannot guarantee that the student will be able to receive food drop offs in the front office. We do NOT accept Door Dash or delivery service food for students under any circumstances. The delivery driver will be turned away. Please limit food drop offs to emergency situations only as it is a burden on our hard working front office staff. Our district is proud to offer free lunch for every student on campus every day. Please save special food from restaurants for our family picnic lunch days and encourage your student to remember to bring their lunch or order from the cafeteria.
Important Update About Neighborhood Activities
From time to time, individuals or groups in the community will distribute information and advertisements to parents/guardians on the public sidewalks during school arrival or dismissal. This information is not affiliated or endorsed by Maple Elementary school and CVUSD.
Any approved communications (i.e. announcements, fliers) from Maple Elementary school and CVUSD will be provided directly from the school to you via email, or given to your students to take home.
If you ever are unsure whether or not materials are from Maple and CVUSD, please do not hesitate to contact the front office at 805-498-6748.

Updated CVUSD Cell Phone Policy
We wanted to make sure you are aware of the new district cell phone policy. I am sure you are aware of the dependency that many pre-teens and teenagers have to mobile devices. It has made it increasingly more difficult for kids to pay attention in class, engage with their peers, and we have seen an increase in students reporting anxiety and depression as a a result. We know that we need to do something different to help kids. Therefore, we are making school cell phone free areas. As a parent myself, I understand that parents are concerned about safety. We ALWAYS allow students to call home from the office. If you are putting a watch on your child, it must remain in "school mode." Any child found texting, accessing the internet, or using aps on their phone will have their phone/watch confiscated and it will need to be picked up from the office by an adult.
