Dear CES Families and Friends,

It was wonderful to see so many families at last evening's Curriculum Night. Please be on the lookout for more whole-school events in the future. We love celebrating all of the amazing work and fabulous people in our community!

Congratulations to the following lucky students whose parents & caregivers entered them in our prize raffle last night.

  • Backpack winners: Jaiden S., Lucy P., Breckin E., Teagan B., Theo S., Malia M., and Luke S.
  • Game winner: Lilah E.
  • Picnic winner: Markayla J.
  • Principal for the Day: Ellie Y.

Fridays are always extra special at CES. We begin our day with a Dance Party and Mr. Toppa runs our Cafeteria Cabaret during lunches. The Cabaret is back from last year and provides students an opportunity to sing and perform for their peers. It is one of our favorite things about CES! Students can sign up to perform during their music classes with Mr. Toppa. Look for video uploads on our school YouTube page soon.

Make sure to check out our Community Events section of the newsletter. There are a number of fun family events taking place in our wider community.

Wising you a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely yours,

Dr. Kelly

CES is Hiring

Have you ever thought about working in a school? CES is hiring for a full-time Instructional Assistant. Instructional Assistants work closely with students in and out of the classroom. They provide social, emotional, and academic support throughout the day and have strong relationships with students and staff members.

The Instructional Assistant hours are 7:30-2:15, Monday - Friday. Instructional Assistants have planning periods and a 30-minute lunch break each day. If you are interested in learning more about our open position, please contact Dr. Kelly jakelly@monomoy.edu and come be a SHARK!

Last Call for CES School Council

The CES School Council is a small, building-based committee composed of the principal, parents, teachers, and community members. It is responsible for making site-based decisions around planning, goal setting, budgeting, and school improvement.

We are currently recruiting new members for the 2023-2024 school year. Meetings are quarterly and approximately 60 minutes in length. Please contact Dr. Kelly (jakelly@monomoy.edu) if interested in joining this year's council.

The first meeting of the School Council will be in mid-October.

Meet Sgt. Massey

Sgt. Bill Massey of the Chatham Police Department is the Student Resource Officer for both CES and Monomoy Regional Middle School. Sgt. Massey spends a lot of time at CES building relationships with our students each day. Sgt. Massey and our friends at the Chatham Fire Department also spend time in our classrooms educating students on safety.

Next week, all of the Monomoy Schools will be holding safety drills. As a school, CES is required to conduct four fire evacuation drills and two Run Hide Fight drills each year. We will be holding a Run Hide Fight drill next week. Sgt. Massey and members of the fire department will be visiting classrooms early in the week to talk about safety and the importance of being able to evacuate the building in a safe and efficient manner. Having our first responders in our building and spending time with our students helps build our community and eases student anxiety during drills. Our SHARKS work hard to be SAFE!

Also, a hearty congratulations to all of the Grade 1-4 students who earned a pumpkin this week in our Fact-o-Lantern Challenge. Students who earn 3 green lights on Reflex each week earn a pumpkin. The class with the most pumpkins at the end of the challenge will earn a pumpkin decorating party. Mr. Anglim's class is out to an early lead, with Ms. Turco and Mr. Gessner's classes close behind.

A Note from Nurse Jaime's Office

As we settle into these first couple of weeks, the germs are back! A gentle reminder that if your child has a fever over 100 degrees, vomiting, or diarrhea, please keep them home until they have been symptom-free for 24 hours.

We also do encourage COVID testing at home as there has been a sprinkle of cases throughout the school. If your child tests positive, the date symptoms began is their day zero. They should remain out of school for 5 days and may return on day 6, granted they are fever-free and have an improvement in symptoms. When they return they should wear a mask until day 10, and on day 11 they will be clear and may remove the mask. The school no longer tests the students for COVID, this should be done at home.

Please contact me with any positive cases or questions.
