Principal's Corner
Good afternoon, Foothills families~
As we approach November 3rd, Iβve received several questions regarding the proposed Mill Levy Override (MLO). To help clarify how this impacts our schools, here are two helpful resources:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eFYsJxG4RGdkfJhWhPSAWYJGZSbl5JpS/view?usp=sharing: A brief presentation by Interim Superintendent Dr. Rob Stein explaining school funding and the purpose of an MLO.
https://www.jeffcopublicschools.org/about/bond-and-mill-levy-overview/2026-mill-levy-override-and-special-mill: The district's official information page, which covers MLO details along with arguments both for and against the measure.

- My favorite Foothills event is fast approaching! Our 4th annual Culture and Beloning Night is on November 16th from 5:30- 6:30. See below for more information.
- For those of you who use our before and after school care provider, I am sad to report that the City of Lakewood is discontinuing all of their before and after school programming (Foothills Elementary and South Lakewood Elementary). We have secured another provider and I am excited to share their information with you. Childcare Innovations will be providing high quality care and I have links below with their information. I am coordinating with the City of Lakewood staff and Childcare Innovations on a transition meet and greet. Stay tuned for more information around this event.

π What Weβre Doing
Red Folders: Please send your child's red folder back this Wednesday. We will be sending NEW WORK home this Friday.
π¬ Conversation Starters
For all kids- Find a book to read together. Ask your child these questions:
BEFORE Reading:
- What do you think this book will be about just by looking at the cover or title?
- What do you already know about this topic?
- What was the main problem in the story, and how was it solved?
- If you could change one event in the story, what would it be and why?

- In November, we are starting Unit 3 in Second Step, which focuses on Empathy & Kindness. Students will practice noticing how others feel, understanding different perspectives, and showing kindness through their words and actions. At home, you can support this learning by wondering about othersβ feelings together (βHow do you think they felt?β), noticing kind choices, and finding small ways to help or include someone.
- Youβll find a Home Link for each grade level below. We encourage you to read your childβs Home Link for simple ways to connect what theyβre learning at school with everyday moments at home!
