Thanking Our Veterans

Hello Francestown Families,

On Monday, November 10th, we are having parent-teacher conference day. School will be closed but we hope you have scheduled time to meet with your child's teacher to review learning progress and discuss ways to continue making your child individually shine! We appreciate your partnership! If you do not have a conference set up, we encourage you to email your child's teacher to set up a meeting time together.

Tuesday, November 11th is Veterans Day, where we thankfully honor all those who have served in our U.S. military, both living and deceased. As a school community, we appreciate all the freedoms we have today due to their service to our country. From our school to your community and homes, thank you! In honor of this day, school will be closed.

Grades 3 & 4: A Science Discovery!

This week Ms. Parisi's class has been working hard on their final essays for the first Module of the year. They are including an introduction, 2-3 body paragraphs, and a conclusion! For math, 3rd graders just wrapped up their second unit about finding area, and they are now learning how to add and subtract within 1,000 for their third unit. Fourth graders are working with adding and subtracting mixed fractions.

For science, Kara from the Harris Center came in and introduced fossils and students brought some home. We have also been continuing to classify different kinds of animals.

Grade 1 & 2 with Mrs. Carbonneau

In MATH this week our 1st graders have been working on addition and subtraction within 20. We use different kinds of manipulatives to help us. You can easily replace the 2-color counters with beans, pennies (heads/tails) or other items you have at home to practice math at home.

In SCIENCE we have been learning about animal traits. We have been looking at adult animals and their offspring to figure out their differences and similarities. Check out this picture of us predicting what the puppy of two different dogs will look like:

Our K-1 Class News with Ms. Flanagan

In Kindergarten, students are learning about more and less. On Stuffie Day, they set the table for them and had to decide if they had enough cups and plates for the guests. In 1st grade, we are contiuing work on number stories. This week they are trying to figure out what information is missing. Students in both grades are beginning to write opinion pieces.

Enjoying Autum!

Kindergarten, Grade 1 and 2 students enjoy recess time jumping in leaf piles spending time among friends.
