Tiger News from Principal Stilwell
Information and communication for Garfield Families
Dear Garfield Families,
Welcome to December! It’s hard to believe we’re already in the final month of the year. I hope you enjoyed a restful and joyful holiday break.
This past week, our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders had the wonderful opportunity to virtually meet author, Peter Brown. We capped off the week with our Tiger Pride assembly on Friday, such a fun celebration of our amazing Tigers!
Looking ahead, I hope to see you at our Winter Concert on Thursday, December 11, at the Everett Civic Auditorium. The doors open at 6pm and more information is below. Our students have worked so hard to prepare for this special evening—it’s truly a magical event! If you can’t attend in person, or if you have family and friends out of town, the concert will be live-streamed on the Everett Civic Auditorium YouTube channel.
Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to celebrating this season with you!
With gratitude,
Kathy Stilwell
Principal

February 10 - Everett Public Schools Bond and Levy
School Construction Bond and Education Levy: Reducing our use of portable classrooms
Families often ask why so many schools rely on portable classrooms. Today, Everett Public Schools uses 103 portables across our elementary schools, which is equivalent to the size of two and a half elementary schools. These portable classrooms were needed to help our district keep up with growth, but were never meant to be a permanent solution for our students. On February 10, 2026, voters will consider two measures that address this ongoing space challenge.
Proposition 1, the School Construction Bond, would fund a new elementary school and add permanent classrooms at existing schools, helping reduce the reliance on portable classrooms. The proposal also includes rebuilding Lowell Elementary, improving learning spaces at Cascade and Everett High schools, and updating roofs, heating and cooling systems, playgrounds, and safety features districtwide.
Proposition 2, the Education Levy, is a renewal measure. It is not a new tax. The levy continues funding for staffing, academic programs, student services, and day-to-day school operations that are not fully covered by the state.
Both these measures will be on the ballot on February 10. You can learn more at: www.everettsd.org/bond-levy-2026
Attendance Matters: If you show - you grow!
We look forward to seeing your child at school every day. Regular school attendance is important, and we will work with you to ensure your child is present to benefit from an excellent education. If your child is absent, please email our attendance email address, gaeattendance@everettsd.org.
If email is not possible, please call 425-385-4705 to report the absence. Please make sure there is an email or a written note within 30 days after your student returns to school.
