Experiential Learning Spotlight - Golf
Central High School is continuing our Wednesday Experiential Leaning programing. Students were able to engage in their experiences for the first time this year on Wednesday, September 16. Golf is the spotlight experience this month.
Golf - Cathy Schluter and Dan Sharpsteen are hitting the links with Central students to learn the basics of golf. Students are showing plenty of drive while chipping away at their goal of reaching the green ⛳😅. North Links Golf Course graciously donated range tokens and the use of their practice course to allow students to learn a sport they can enjoy for a lifetime.
A Generous Gift
Gretchen Rehm Financial gifted Central High School a $500 check to go towards transportation to support our Experiential Learning courses. Central High School greatly appriciates Gretchen Rehm Financial's contribution to our students!
Student Spotlight Quinn Pancake
Our Student Spotlight is Quinn Pancake! Quinn is a first year Central student and she has brought with her a tremendous amount of positive energy through her interactions with staff and students. We are lucky to have Quinn as not only a student but also a Welcome Window employee. Quinn's upbeat and social presence makes her a great fit to welcome guests at Lincoln Community School. Thank you Quinn for being you!
Staff Spotlight Scott Klinkner
Scott is often the first voice you hear on the phone and the first face you see when you come to Central High School. Scott has been the office secretary for Central High School since 2015. His hobbies include napping, watching the Minnesota Vikings (preferably when they are winning), gardening, and hanging out with his lovely wife and cat. Scott is usually the first line of support for students when it comes to common questions such as: "What hour is it?" "Do you have a Band-Aid?" "Did my mom call?" "Can you check my temperature?" and "Have you seen my Chromebook?"
We thank Scott for his welcoming attitude, classic rock playlists, and mascot-wearing enthusiasm. 🎸🦅
In it to WIN It
Starting this coming Wednesday (9/23) Central students will be able to benefit from What I Need (WIN) Time. This is dedicated time every Wednesday from 1:05-3:05 for students to seek out academic support to ensure their success. Some examples of how WIN Time can be utilized by students are, re-taking a test, making up missing work, working with a teacher on a difficult concept, making up a lab in science, or having a meeting with the school counselor. This is a tier one intervention that all students can access to ensure their academic success.
One way we encourage students and families to utilize WIN Time is by sending out a missing assignment report each Tuesday. Starting this Tuesday (9/22) families will receive an email containing a list of their student's missing assignments.
Attendance Matters
One of the strongest predictors of academic success is regular attendance.
Students who attend school consistently are more likely to:
Earn credits toward graduation
Stay on track academically
Build positive relationships with staff and peers
Access support services when needed
Attendance letters are sent when a student is absent from the same class period on three, five, seven, and ten separate days. These letters are not intended to be punitive; rather, they are meant to keep families informed about their student's attendance and the school's legal obligations regarding the reporting of chronic absenteeism.
If your student is experiencing barriers to attendance, please contact us. We want to work together to identify solutions and connect families with available resources.
Remember: Every day counts.
