4-H and Cloverbud Clubs

September brings with it the first Cloverbud and 4-H meetings. Cloverbud is a program for kindergarten through third grade designed to introduce young people to cooperative learning and the many things they can do in 4-H. Mrs. Dotson, the Cloverbud teacher, does an excellent job presenting programs that tie in with what students are learning in the classroom. 4-H is a program that seeks to promote positive youth development, facilitate learning and engage youth in the work of their community. Through 4-H meetings, the 4-H agent Crystal Peek helps students develop personal talents, public speaking and presentation skills. Students also learn Robert's Rules of Order to facilitate their meetings.

GES Writing Club

The Greendale Writing Club is taking part in an exciting opportunity again this year—the students are partnering with bestselling author Adriana Trigiani through The Origin Project. This initiative is designed to inspire young writers to explore their family roots, local history, and personal stories while developing their own voices as authors.

Throughout the project, students will engage in creative writing activities that encourage them to celebrate where they come from and the people who have shaped their lives. Guided by writing club sponsors, Dr. Sprinkle and Mrs. Davenport, club members are learning how writing can preserve memories, honor traditions, and connect generations.

The project will culminate in a published anthology featuring the students’ original works. Each writer will have the opportunity to see their words in print—an empowering milestone that builds both confidence and pride.

We are thrilled that our young authors are part of this meaningful journey. Through The Origin Project, they are not only strengthening their writing skills, but also discovering the power of storytelling to celebrate identity and heritage.

WGES News Crew Visits WCYB

The WGES News Crew had an exciting opportunity to take a special field trip to WCYB-TV, our local news station. Students were able to step behind the scenes and see firsthand how a professional newsroom operates.

During the visit, the crew toured the newsroom, control room, and studio. They learned about the technology that keeps the news running smoothly, the teamwork it takes to produce a broadcast, and the many different jobs involved—from reporters and anchors to producers, camera operators, and directors.

This trip gave our News Crew valuable insight into the world of journalism and broadcasting, while also inspiring them to think about future careers in media. We are so proud of how our students represented WGES and thankful to WCYB for welcoming us and sharing their time and expertise.
