Superintendent's Weekly Update
October 10, 2025

A NOTE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
October 10, 2025
Happy Friday PUSD!
It was another week of important planning for the future of our district. Here’s a quick recap of key updates from last night’s Board of Education meeting:
District Goals Approved: The Board unanimously approved our updated District Goals Framework, which centers our collective work around three priorities — Student Success, Community Engagement, and Fiscal Responsibility. Each goal includes clear success indicators and a cadence of accountability to help us measure progress and stay aligned.
Facilities Planning: Building on the September 29th Facilities Workshop, the Board approved a contract for a feasibility study and consulting services to explore a potential General Obligation Bond Measure in the future. This work will help us address critical facility needs across PUSD.
Improving Efficiency and Service: Staff presented an update on the new volunteer application process, which simplifies how parents and community members are approved to support our schools. It’s one example of our ongoing efforts to improve efficiency, enhance service, and strengthen the overall PUSD experience.
Energy and Facilities Upgrades: The Board also approved a design contract for the Rancho Bernardo High School and Bernardo Heights Middle School Chiller Project. Modernizing these HVAC systems is projected to save the district more than $600,000 annually in energy costs and reduce maintenance and water treatment expenses—while ensuring comfortable, engaging learning environments for students.
These are just a few highlights from this week’s meeting. For more details, please view the Board Brief.
Sincerely,
Ben

Support the Dream to STEAM Campaign
The PUSD Foundation recently announced the launch of its annual Dream to STEAM giving campaign, which helps fund Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) opportunities for students across our district. Because Poway Unified receives the lowest per-pupil funding of any unified school district in San Diego County, the Foundation plays a vital role in bridging the gap to provide the experiences our students need to thrive.
