Every Day Counts: Building Strong Attendance Habits
As we begin a new school year, we encourage every District 33 family to make regular school attendance a priority. Every day a student is at school is an opportunity to learn, build relationships, develop important social-emotional skills, and feel connected to their school community. This is important for students of all ages, beginning in Preschool through 8th grade.
Some absences are unavoidable, such as illness or family emergencies. An excused absence is one that meets the school’s established reasons for an absence and is reported to the school attendance line. An unexcused absence does not meet those criteria or is not properly reported. Regardless of how an absence is classified, too many missed school days can mean missed opportunities for learning and connection. Families can help by establishing consistent morning routines, scheduling appointments outside of school hours when possible, and communicating with the school when challenges make attendance difficult.
Thank you for partnering with us to help our students show up, feel connected, and make every school day count!
