Principal Weekly Update to Families
For the Week of October 20th - October 24th
Brief Message From the Principal
Dear Jayhawk Elementary Families,
We’ve officially wrapped up the first quarter here at Jayhawk Elementary, and what a great start to the school year it has been! Our staff truly enjoyed visiting with families during Parent-Teacher Conferences and sharing the progress and accomplishments of our students. Thank you to all who were able to attend and partner with us in supporting your child’s growth. For families with students in grades 3–6, please remember that you can always stay up to date on your child’s academic progress through the PowerSchool Parent Portal.
As we move into the second quarter, our focus begins to shift from gathering beginning-of-year data to using that information to guide daily instruction. Teachers are now working closely with students in targeted intervention groups to strengthen key skills and build upon each child’s unique progress. This helps ensure that every student receives the support and challenges they need to grow academically.
Families play an important role in this process, too! Here are a few simple ways to support learning at home:
-
Read together daily – take turns reading aloud and ask questions about the story.
-
Practice math facts in fun ways, such as flashcards, online games, or real-life problem solving (like counting change or measuring while cooking).
-
Celebrate effort and progress – talk about goals and recognize the hard work your child is putting in at school.
We are so proud of how far our students have come already and look forward to a strong second quarter filled with growth, learning, and continued partnership with our families.
DISTRICT CHANGE: ANNOUNCEMENT
Veterans Day Program Announcement - ONE DISTRICT CEREMONY
We are honored each year to celebrate our nation’s heroes during our Veterans Day Program. This year, there will be an important change to our district’s tradition. USD 346 will host one unified Veterans Day ceremony on Tuesday, November 11th, from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM at Jayhawk-Linn High School. Our goal with this change is to provide a single, district-wide celebration that allows all veterans and community members to attend one special event honoring their service.
More specific details about the program and student participation will be shared as the date approaches. We are looking forward to this meaningful day of recognition and gratitude.
State Assessment Scores:
The state assessment scores from last year have been released and you now have access to see your child's scores on the assessments. Families who selected the opt-in option during enrollment can view their child’s assessment results in the KITE Parent Portal. Attached to this message you will find two helpful documents:
You will be able to access your child's scores through the KITE Parent Portal using the email address you provided in PowerSchool during enrollment. If you need assistance updating or confirming your email in PowerSchool, please contact JES at @ 913-795-2519.
We encourage you to review the enclosed guide before logging in, as it will help you better understand the score reports and what they mean for your child's learning.
Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting your student's education.
