DEAL MS LIBRARY NEWS!
September 2025
What's going on in the library?
Greetings Families,
It has been a great start to the school year! Students have been excited to begin visiting the library during recess and after school! Students have access to the library during recess on days of the week when the space is available. In addition to checking out books, students are able to relax with friends, play a variety of board and card games, make art, use our music production station, 3D-printer, build with Legos and Technics, tinker with electronics, and more! There is an ever rotating menu of options designed to build STEM and literacy skills as well as encourage creativity and curiosity.
Students will begin coming to the library over the next month with their ELA classes to check out books and learn more about the library. Deal's library has 13,000 physical books with 1000's of additional titles in our digital collections SORA and Follett Destiny. Students will have the opportunity to bring 2 books home in their first visit. They are also allowed to check out up to 5 at a time. There is more information about the library policies for check out below.
Students have a range of options for research in the "Library Resources" section of Clever. The GALE research database holds a curated collection of scholarly articles, magazines, and other media on a wide range of topics perfect for research projects. Encyclopedia Britannica is available offering options that allow students to vary the text complexity of an article, generate a citation, take notes and highlight, translate to a wide variety of languages and it has a built in reader. In addition, there are apps for learning to write code, Zotero - an easy to use citation manager, Checkology - a news literacy curriculum, and much more!
Mr. Reichlen also teaches students to create 3D CAD designs using the gateway application known as TinkerCAD - a simple platform for 3D design part of the AutoDesk Suite of software which is an industry leader in 3D design and fabrication software. Students are able to print their designs from the library's 3D printer upon request.
Stop in to meet Mr. Reichlen and see the library media center during our upcoming Back-to-School Night! You can also reach out with questions by clicking the contact link at the bottom of the newsletter.

Library Checkout Policies
Students at Deal will be checking out books during the month of September during our beginning of the year library orientation. Students are allowed to have up to 5 books out at a time and will begin to receive overdue notices after 30 days. Mr. Reichlen sends out two emails to families per year. One will go out before the winter break and one goes out at the end of May or early June. There are no fines for lost or damaged books but books that do not get returned will end up on the student's record through high school unless the student or family communicates with Mr. Reichlen. The library will also accept donations of new or gently used hard cover books published within the last 5 years and age-appropriate for 6th grade students. Students will never be disciplined for lost materials and it will not affect future checkouts as long as Mr. Reichlen is notified. To read the full library policy document, click on the image.
