Sunny Heights Families,

May is a very busy time of year as we wind down one year and begin planning for a new one! We are finishing up ILEARN testing for 3rd & 4th grade, working through the alphabet spirit days in Kindergarten, and making the most out of each day to prepare our students moving forward. It is still very important that students are here on time each day for the last three weeks of the year.

A special reminder that our current 4th graders have an opportunity to visit and learn about 5th grade at Stonybrook on Monday, May 10th at 5:30pm. Students and families will be able to see the school and hear from some of the Stonybrook staff that will be working with 5th graders next year.

Our final book fair of the 20-21 school year will begin on Monday, May 10th and end on Friday, May 21st. During the first week, students will have the opportunity to preview the fair and purchases will be made the following week. Due to Covid restrictions, we will not have a Family Night, therefore, the fair will only be open during regular school hours. During the fair, students will not write Wish Lists, but instead, iPad will be used to take pictures of books they would like to purchase. All items will be visibly priced. Please ensure that students iPad are returned to school and are fully charged.

Online shopping is available for your convenience. All online orders will be shipped directly to your home. eWallet is a safe, cashless payment option for students. You may visit the Scholastic website, at scholastic.com/fair, to set up an account for your student. You begin by searching for Sunny Heights Elementary, then deposit money for spending at the fair. Any balances may be spent at The Scholastic Store Online and refunds are not given. Take the opportunity to total your orders and deposit exact amounts.

Cash or money orders will be accepted for purchases, also. At this time, we can NOT accept any checks. You may contact the school if you have any questions.

For the 2020-2021 school year, Warren Township has transitioned to a new student information system called Synergy allowing our parents and caregivers to have improved access to school information through the parent portal called ParentVUE. We are aware that at this time some students’ attendance records are reflecting students are absent, when in fact they were present. This is mostly the case for our students who are attending school VIRTUALLY on application days or in the VIRTUAL opinion full-time. We want to assure you that teachers are keeping accurate attendance records and that we are working to correct attendance records for all our students.

This week our students are focusing on recognizing students that show EXCELLENCE throughout the day. Excellence is shown when students put forth their best effort in any situation, especially difficult or challenging situations. We want Sunny Heights to be a place where everyone is valued, respected, and strives for their own excellence.

Warren Parents and Caregivers, here is the link to our Student Success Handbook. This handbook is updated every year to include information about how we keep students and staff safe at school, along with resources for families to access as well as information on district procedures and policies. This handbook is also shared with students. Please take a moment to review and complete this as acknowledgement that you have received the handbook. Please reach out if you have any questions.

The occasion may arise when the school district wants to recognize your child or your child's school. This may include your child's photo, your child's name or your child's work in district publications, newsletters, on school district websites, and in electronic/social media or in staff training videos. We may also want to tell the media (including newspapers, television, and radio) about your child's achievements. We never knowingly release information about a student to anyone who wants to use it for commercial/political purposes. However, we will honor your request to not include your child in these types of recognition if you notify your child's school office in writing that you do not want this type of information released.
