Tiger Times

Many students agree, even those in conflict, on one thing: some of the lunches are not the best. Many people only like the side items, such as fries, sausage and pretzel sticks. Here are hacks to get what you want (and need):

• On certain days, you may have noticed long lines in the cafeteria (although, this is no different than most days.) This is because the cafeteria is serving spiced/seasoned fries. Here’s a piece of advice: get them, because they are prime trading (and eating) material. Depending on the person, you can trade them for anything from a piece of candy to a steak sandwich (and many more), as spiced fries are universally (middle school) appreciated. If you feel like fries are too good to trade, at the end of lunch, they give out fries for free.

• On brunch for lunch (or just brunch) days, you may have noticed trays stacked sky high with sausages. These kids are going around the cafeteria asking for food! You may believe that the sausages are a little dry (and you might have a point) but many (almost all) kids overlook this. If you take the two sausages granted, you could trade them for the cinnamon French toast sticks. (Dip in syrup. Simply delicious.) You could also trade them for sweet potato fries. (They may or may not be a tad soggy.)

Bon appétit

This is some information you are going to need to know about each job.

First we have … talking a little about one of the most important jobs in the student council which is school president;

We have Reuven to tell us a little about the job of school secretary:

“As secretary I am going to help run morning meetings and plan school events. I am here to help run SO meetings, keep track of income and changes, and help spread school spirit. Student organization can not bring in vending machines and such ilk."

We also have Josephine running for office as school secretary talking to us about the importance of the job she is running for. “Secretary is an important job. I will have to run morning meetings and keep track of what we are buying. But, I also have a say and can listen to your opinions on school events. I will try to make the events super fun!” I’m also going to talk about a little about the job of VP. This job is very important because I or whoever wins will be the right hand of the president and will have to be working with all the other positions including Professor Razzak.

Each job is so important for so many reason. For example; treasure does the job of counting money and they help figure out how much each school celebration or trips will cost. Another job with equal importance is team leaders. Team leaders for Albany, Purchase, Geneseo, Cortland, Stonybrook will help each team and be like a governor for their team.

Stay tuned for interviews with our officers in the next issue! Let's have a great year!

Sports are hard to understand. You have to be athletic, smart, and have lots of focus. Some popular sports are basketball, soccer, football, and baseball. Some people are trying to be famous and popular by playing these sports. But being good at a sport takes a lot of practice. You have to know the rules of the game, practice a lot and more. For example, in basketball and soccer, you can’t knock people on the floor. But in football, you can do that. But, if your going to be interested in football, you might get hurt because of so many people trying to tackle you when you have the ball. Like the Olympics, they have a lot of sports. And if you want to be in the Olympics, you don’t have to be skilled at a of the sports they have in stall. Now, baseball is based on strength and speed. In this game you have to hit the ball as hard as you can too get a home run. But if the enemy team catches the ball, tags you with the ball, or throw the ball to a base and they step on it, your out. Volleyball is pretty popular in the summer, and it’s easy. If you ever tried to keep something in the air, like a balloon, Its like that. Almost every sport has an important part, the out of bounds line. The out of bounds line is a line where when the ball goes out of the field, then the other team gets a free pass or serve. Additionally, some people have a hard time with it. And it’s okay. Just keeps practicing until you get it.

◦ Did you know that some birds sometimes misbehave and some birds mostly behave well.

◦ Another special thing about birds is they like to get wet sometimes in the water to bathe themselves.

◦ Another special thing about birds is that their true ancestors is the dinosaurs that lived very long ago.

◦ A very cool fact about birds is that their feathers help them fly, to attract mates, camouflaging from predators, and finally for keeping them warm during the winter or fall.

*One special thing about birds is that they sleep by standing, perching, roosting

Hurricane Milton recently went through Florida. People were evacuating and hiding from it. Rescue teams were flying all over Florida to save as many people as they could. Milton also spawned tornados, which has never happened before. Hurricane Milton went right through Saint Petersburg, Tampa, and Orlando, but most of Florida felt its wrath. Hurricane Milton had a very wide spread, so if you were in its way you would have to evacuate. Milton’s winds were so powerful they ripped apart roofs and split houses with their hundred mile winds. People took shelter at the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team’s stadium, and the roof got completely torn apart but luckily there were no casualties. There are pictures of roads with massive traffic. There are very little cars heading in but so many heading out. Hurricane Milton hit Florida hard, and many people are suffering and are now homeless because of it.

Tell us how you are feeling about different aspects of life at Eastview! Take the survey and then check out the next issue for the results!

It's Baseball time in New York! The New York Yankees were in the World Series vs. The Dodgers and it was very exciting. The Yankees haven't won a World Series since 2009 when they played the Philadelphia Phillies beating them in game six, 7-3 on Nov. 4. The MVP that year was Hideki Matsui. He had a .615 average, 3 home runs and 8 RBI’s. The Dodgers have also had a good season. Mookie Betts, the Dodgers' right fielder is currently the best player on the Dodgers right now. The Dodgers and the Yankees have met at a World Series 11 times and the Yankees Have won 8 championships against the Dodgers, and the Dodgers won 3. While we had hoped that New York could come back from being down three games to one, we ended up disappointed. Even though they came back to force a game five, the Yankees weren't able to pull it off! Oh well, time to think about next year! LET'S GO YANKEES.

Students of Eastview I want to know from you. The New York Liberty won the WNBA championship against the Lynx. But do you think there should have been a different outcome? In my opinion, I think the Liberty should keep the win. Just because I am a fan and they have never won in 27 years, even though they’re a great team. I personally am also hurt that the Indiana Fever lost to the Connecticut Suns. I think the Connecticut Suns are a great team, but the Fever still should have won because Caitlin Clark has added so much talent into the Fever. Caitlin Clack also has put the WNBA on the map way more than it was before. A great match up would have been Fever and the Liberty because they would both really deserve to go to the championship. Another great match up would also have been Atlanta Dream v Las Vegas Aces because they would have wanted to win equally. So, it would have been nice to see two great teams going against each other! Hope you enjoyed the 2023-2024 season :)

Yearbook Club

Reuven Bennett Ross: What are the yearbook club activities?

Antoine Petit: First, we went over the club norms, or rules, so things wouldn’t get wild. Then, we began working on hand-drawn covers with paper and pencil. Eventually, we will make digital covers.

Reuven Bennett Ross: How many people are in the club?

Antoine Petit: In the end, the yearbook club was full. I would say there are 30+ kids in the room. There are always absentees, though.

Reuven Bennett Ross: What are the roles each person plays?

Antoine Petit: Each person plays an equal role. Everybody makes a cover and submits it. In the end, we are all working on the same yearbook.

Reuven Bennett Ross: What parts of the yearbook are there?

Antoine Petit: There are many parts of a yearbook. Photos from most events, clubs and of the students. Also, pictures across and of the school. There might be captions and quotes, too.

Reuven Bennett Ross: What is something surprising about your club?

Antoine Petit: I was disappointed to learn that we cannot take photos for the yearbook. That was a big letdown.

International Club

Reuven Bennett Ross: What will be some of the main activities in the Internation Club?

Renicio Rodner: Some of the main activities are trying new foods, learning about new cultures, and learning the country’s geography.

Reuven Bennett Ross: What do you plan to contribute to the club?

Renicio Rodner: I want to do a session about the Dominican Republic, and all of us help at the Internatinal Celebration.

Reuven Bennett Ross: What are some of the things you are excited for?

Renicio Rodner: Eating food from different countries.

Reuven Bennett Ross: Why did you decide to join this certain club?

Renicio Rodner: I decided to join because I thought it would be fun, and I wasn’t in any other clubs.

Reuven Bennett Ross: What was something surprising about International Club?

Renicio Rodner: We choose which countries we learn about.

Art Club

Antoine Petit: What are the activities you do in Art Club

Anonymous: We mostly draw what we want freely. We might have a project eventually, though.

Antoine Petit: What made you want to join this club?

Anonymous: I thought it sounded interesting. I also wanted to draw more.

Antoine Petit: How many people joined Art Club?

Anonymous: About 40 people joined, but there are 2 groups on Tuesday and Thursday, so about 20 people in each one.

What should you be for Halloween? The question comes up every year for kids!

1. Clown
2. Zombie
3. Vampire
4. Harry Potter universe
5. Ghost face

Why might you choose one of these costumes? Well, you can choose any costume you want for Halloween, but these costumes are just Halloween classics that you might enjoy.

The first on the costume list is a clown. The list is in no particular order. I put a clown up there because it’s not Halloween unless somebody is dressed as a clown. A clown is a great classic costume and good if you need a simple costume.

Next on the list is a zombie. Zombies are simple, classic, and fun to dress up as. For a zombie, all you need is some green face paint and some beat up old clothes. If you need a fast and cheap costume, I think being a zombie is the way to go.

Then there is the classic vampire. I think vampires can be very cool because you get fangs, a cape, fake blood, and so many more cool things. That is why I think a vampire would be a very cool costume.

Next is the Harry Potter universe. When I say Harry Potter universe, I mean a character in Harry Potter. You can be Harry , Ron, Hermione, or any of the other characters. I love Harry Potter and think that if you really look around on Halloween night, you will see at least one person in Harry Potter robes.

Finally, number five is a ghost face. One reason you should choose ghost face is that there are many kinds of masks to pick from. For example, you can have the original ghost face mask, the zombie ghost face mask, the Anniversary ghost face mask, the bloody ghost face mask, and the devil ghost face mask. The choices are endless!

There are many other Halloween costumes to choose from, but I personally like this list of the top five Halloween costumes. I hope my opinion might help you choose a Halloween costume.

Dogs - You might want to pick a dog as a pet because you’ll always have a companion along your side and you’ll be able to bond with him/her. Dogs are adorable pets because they have so much fur on them it would be the best pet to cuddle with.

Cats - You could also pick cats as a pet because they are very quiet and affordable. They also are low maintenance, so they don’t need much training. There a great apartment pet since they're small.

Birds - If I were you I would pick a bird they are so adorable and are very social creatures, and they also can talk to you well kind of you need to tell them what to say before you can talk to them. Some downsides are that they make lots of noise and need space for a cage.

Hamsters - Just like cats, hamsters also are low-maintenance pets. You can have a lot of fun with theme since they have those tubes that they run around in, and also have those cute toy wheels to exercise. They also have fluffy fur so you can cuddle with them. The best part of hamsters are they are easy to take with you for emergencies or trips.

Fish - Last on the list are fish. They are great pets to have because all they need is water, a bowl, and some food. Some downsides to picking a fish is that you can’t touch them, they constantly need food, and sometimes they need their bowls to be cleaned.

These are my top picks for the best pets. I hope this helped you decide if you are going to get a pet or not.
