EIS News & Notes
October 2nd, 2026
Fall is Here!
Is it really October? How can that be? Somehow we only have one more week until fall break! We still have plenty of work to do next week so encourage your students to finish strong. This next week also tends to be a time when students can let their excitement for break lead to some interesting decisions when it comes to their behavior. We'll have extra patience but anything you can do at home to encourage kindness and following procedures is greatly appreciated!
As a send off to fall break we will have a pajama day next Friday!
Have a great weekend,
Andy
Weekly Updates
New This Week:
- Robotics Team Applications: Below this section you will find a downloadable application to be on the EIS Robotics team. These applications are also available in the front office and can be picked up before or after school. This team is open to 4th and 5th graders and is highly selective. However, the team will reflect the demographics of EIS. Make sure your student does the best they can on the application. These applications are due next Wednesday 10/7. Please direct any questions to the EIS Robotics coach, Mr. John Kerr jkerr@rbbschools.net.
- Digital Safety Workshop: Join us on October 6 from 6:00-7:00 in the EPS Library for a special presentation about preparing young children for the internet, online games, digital citizenship, and more. John Graham, the Education and Outreach Program Manager for Susie’s Place Child Advocacy Centers, will be speaking about these topics and others during this hour-long session. Attendees will also receive a resource packet filled with additional information to read through at home.
From Last Week:
- Body Safety/Bullying/Emotional Wellness Letter: Below this section you will find a letter describing our Body Safety, Bullying, and Emotional Wellness curricular overview. This also includes a link to opt out of these lessons.
- Monster Bash Candy: It is that time of year again! The second flyer describes what the PTO needs from us this year when it comes to candy. This is their big fundraiser of the year and a great family event. The PTO does so much to appreciate our teacher and staff as well as providing fun opportunities for our kiddos. I encourage your support of their endeavors!

Connection Corner
From our Counseling Team:
In our connection corner for this month, we are focusing on an important Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI®) core principle: "No Hurts."
For upper elementary students (3rd–5th grade), "No Hurts" goes beyond physical safety. While it reminds students to keep their hands and bodies to themselves, it also emphasizes emotional safety—teaching kids that our words and actions should build others up rather than cause hurt.
Here is what we are learning together:
Physical Safety: Respecting personal space and keeping hands, feet, and objects to ourselves.
Emotional Safety: Understanding how words, body language, and tone impact others, and choosing kindness over put-downs or teasing.
Repairing Relationships: Learning how to own up to mistakes, offer genuine apologies, and practice "do-overs" when a hurt occurs.
How you can practice "No Hurts" at home:
Model Emotional Safety: Use calm, respectful words when working through frustrations or conflicts at home.
Practice "Do-Overs": If a sibling or family member uses harsh words, offer them a quick opportunity for a "do-over" using respectful language.
Check In: Ask your child, "How did you practice keeping things 'No Hurts' with your friends or classmates today?"
Creating a safe, supportive environment allows our students to thrive both emotionally and academically. Thank you for partnering with us to reinforce these valuable life skills. Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.

- Our first submission will tie together the poll results from last week. There was over 75% support for a grandparents day! We received a great suggestion that if we were to do something like this that we could expand it to allow more students to participate. Some student's grandparents live far away or may no longer be with us. Maybe at EIS we create an event like "Grubbin' with Grown-Ups?" There will be logistics to work out and we may need to do different grades on different days, but I think this is a great idea! Our Family Engagement Team will begin working on this!
- There was a great question about picking up your student early for appointments. To do so, come into the front vestibule and sign them out on the computer. Our sign-out procedures do require identification so bring your driver's license. Once they have been signed out on the computer, Mrs. Ooley will call for them. They will arrive in the vestibule and you are good to go. Pro TIps: Know that the closer you wait until 3:00, the harder time you will have getting out of the parking lot. If you do have to pick up near 3:00, it is best to park in the EPS parking lot so you don't get blocked in. Also, know that as long as you wait until after 1:15, your student's attendance will not be affected.
- Further clarification on a submission from last week regarding the doors being locked prior to the start of the school day. This was an error on our part. During the first few weeks of school the car rider line still had cars in it until after the start of school so we simply closed the door on the way in. Somewhere along the way the EIS side of the car rider line starting getting finished 5 minutes prior to the start of school and we accidentally closed the door on a couple of occasions. If your student's attendance was affected by this, let us know and we will fix it.
- Picture retake day is Friday October 23rd!
