๐ Message from the Principal
Dear Janney Families,
As we enter the final days of the school year, I find myself reflecting on all that we have accomplished together as a community and feeling incredibly grateful.
Last night, we held our final PTA community meeting of the year, and I want to extend my deepest thanks to our PTA Co-Presidents, Jackie Ross and Anita Siegfriedt, for their extraordinary leadership and partnership throughout the year. We also had the opportunity to recognize our committee chairs, volunteers, executive board members completing their terms, and the many volunteers who have given so generously of their time, talents, and resources in support of Janney. A special thank you goes to our graduating parent volunteers whose children are moving on to middle school. Janney is the school it is because of the countless ways our families invest in this community, and we are deeply grateful for all you have done to support our students, staff, and school.
I am also still smiling as I think about Field Day last week. It was a joyful celebration for our more than 700 Janney Jaguars and a wonderful reminder of the power of community. Thank you to our staff, volunteers, and Field Day committee members who worked behind the scenes to make the day such a success for our students.
This week is a special one for our 5th grade class of 2026. As they enjoy their time at Echo Hill this week, we are also preparing to celebrate them through several beloved Janney traditions. On Friday, families are invited to join us for the 5th Grade Clap Out at 1:30pm, followed by Promotion at 5:30pm.
As many of you know, outside of being a principal, I am also a parent. My youngest child is finishing 5th grade this year and preparing for Deal Middle School. Because of that, I find myself especially appreciative of this milestone. I understand the mix of pride, excitement, gratitude, and perhaps a little nostalgia that many of our 5th grade families may be feeling right now. While we are excited for all that lies ahead for our students, we are also taking time to celebrate this important chapter and the memories made along the way.
Even as we approach the finish line, there is still much learning, celebration, and joy ahead. Thank you for your continued partnership as we finish the school year strong together.
In Partnership,
Principal Singh

๐ซถ Thank You for a Wonderful Spring Picnic
What a fantastic way to celebrate the end of another amazing year together! Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Spring Picnic and helped make it such a fun and memorable evening for our community.
A very special thank you to our incredible co-chairs, Deb Friedman and Lisa Lennon, whose hard work and organization made the evening such a success.
We are also grateful to Sara Curtin for coordinating our incredible performance lineup, and to the Janney Glee Club, Janney Band, Cheer Squad, and talented cast of Shrek for the wonderful performances that brought so much joy to the evening and were a highlight of the picnic.
Thank you to Bill Chedester for his work on the audio to make our performances possible, and to DJ Keren Erez (mom of Janney first grader Noah) for providing the perfect soundtrack throughout the evening.
We are also incredibly appreciative for the Merch Team and the many volunteers who helped set up, clean up, and keep the concession stand running throughout the evening. We couldn't have done it without you.
Finally, thank you to our Janney+ team for bringing so much fun and energy to the event, Ms. Zallman for organizing the wonderful Clothing & Stuffy Swap, and Mike Barnhart and our amazing custodial crew for helping everything run smoothly from start to finish.
It was a wonderful evening together and a great reminder of what makes the Janney community so special.
Keeping Janney Connected: A Thank You to Our Communications Committee
As we get to one of our last newsletters of the year, we wanted to take a moment to recognize the incredible team that helps keep our community informed, engaged, and connected week after week: Wendy Wang Pisa, Tamia Tomasek, and Jacqueline Worrell.
From putting together our weekly newsletters to keeping us smiling on social media to making sure we never miss an important update through Remind, this team works tirelessly behind the scenes to keep our community informed, engaged, and connected.
What makes their work even more remarkable is that all three volunteered for these roles for the very first time this year. They embraced the challenge with enthusiasm, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to Janney, and absolutely knocked it out of the park.
Their work often happens quietly behind the scenes, but its impact is felt every single day. They help celebrate our successes, share important information, highlight opportunities to get involved, and ensure that families always feel connected to what's happening across our school community.
Wendy, Tamia, and Jacqueline, thank you for the countless hours, thoughtful care, creativity, and talent you've shared with Janney this year. We are so lucky to have you as part of Janney and so grateful for all you do! ๐
๐ Help Wanted: Janney Volunteers
We are grateful that all families are part of the PTA and contribute time and/or money to make all the wonderful things at Janney happen. We know that coordinating work, home, kids, and everything else is exhausting and time consuming. This makes us even more grateful that all members of the Janney Jaguar PTA find some time to pitch in. Thank you!
Membership Directory Volunteers
Want a sneak peek at the teacher and student placements? Looking for a flexible way to spend your PTA volunteer time? We're seeking volunteers to help update the membership directory over the summer and maintain it throughout the school year. This is behind the scenes work in the database that supports our Membership Directory. Most of the work is concentrated in the week of August 17, but can be done at any time during the day or night. Throughout the year it is a light lift and can be completed on your own schedule, making it a great fit for busy calendars. If you're organized, detail-oriented, and willing to lend a hand, we'd love to have your help!
Event Sponsorship Volunteers
Good with people? Savvy with businesses? Like helping businesses connect with the Janney community? We have the role for you! We're seeking volunteers to support the newly created Sponsorship Committee. These roles conduct outreach to potential and returning sponsors of the Janney Directory, 5K, Auction and Janney as a whole to request their continued or new support. This Committee will also be engaged in developing sponsorship benefits and making sure our supporterโs benefits are fulfilled. If you're organized and willing to chat with anyone, we'd love to have you join the team!
Concessions Committee
Ever coordinated kids eating snacks? Donโt have a lot of time? Need a volunteer role that is flexible? Then we have the opportunity for you! Weโre looking for volunteers interested in helping coordinate a more centralized concessions program across Janney events. In this โback-of-houseโ role, you would focus on areas like inventory and purchasing to help streamline operations and make sure the snacks are โon fleekโ, while the sales at events would still be coordinated by the individual event team. This is a great opportunity for someone who needs a flexible volunteer opportunity and enjoys organization, snacks, finding a deal, Costco trips, or simply helping behind the scenes in a meaningful way.
Interested in learning more? Reach out to ptavp@janneyschool.org. Again, we are so grateful to each and every Janney family for the time they spend to make Janney, well Janney. Watch for even more volunteer opportunities in the future!
Don't Forget To Pick Up Your Child's Medication
Please make arrangements to pick up your childโs medication from the school health suite no later than June 18th. For the safety of all students, medications cannot be sent home with students and any medication not picked up by the end of the school year may be discarded. Medication pick-up hours are during normal school hours (8am-4:30pm ET).
๐ End-of-Year Teacher & Staff Appreciation Gifts
Following a fantastic Staff Appreciation Week, we are closing out the school year by honoring Janneyโs incredible educators and staff! If you would like to participate, there are two voluntary ways to show your gratitude by Friday, June 12:
Classroom Gifts: Look out for an email from your Room Parents regarding coordinated gift collections for your childโs specific homeroom teachers, co-teachers, and aides.
Schoolwide Appreciation Fund: The PTA is collecting contributions to recognize the many vital staff members who support all our studentsโincluding specials teachers, administration, office staff, custodians, security, and cafeteria teams.
How to Contribute to the Janney Teachers & Staff Appreciation Fund:

QR Code: [See Photo]
Please include "Teacher & Staff Appreciation" in the notes field.
Please submit contributions by Friday, June 12.
Participation in both classroom gifts and the Janney Teachers & Staff Appreciation Fund is entirely voluntary. There is no recommended contribution amount, and families should feel comfortable contributing any amountโor not contributing at all.

๐ฃ Janney Jaguar Enrollment
Complete Janney Enrollment for 2026-2027 by logging into your ASPEN account to access your parent portal. As a reminder, ALL FAMILIES must re-enroll!
๐กHelpful Tips:
Locked out of Aspen? If youโre having trouble logging in, send Ms. Reid an email. Password resets must be initiated by the school, and we'll get you back in Aspen.
Double-Check Your Documents: The residency verification upload button can be a bit tricky to find. If youโve submitted your enrollment but haven't received a confirmation email, please double-check that your DC residency documents were successfully attached.
Re-Enrollment Documents: Good news for returning families! Since we already have proof-of-age documents on file for our current students, you only need to provide those for new students joining the Janney family for the first time.
Health & Dental Forms: As you schedule your spring check-ups, remember that health and dental forms remain valid for one full year from the date of the appointment.
Here is a tutorial should you need further assistance; you can also reach out to Ms. Reid or Mr. Barnhart.
