Primary Students Prepare for Operetta

The kindergarteners, 1st graders, and 2nd graders prepared come colorful posters to decorate the gym for Operetta. They wanted to spread some cheer and encouragement to the chorus, cast and crew too. They had fun coloring a poster for each floor of the school, and then a bunch for the gym.

Library News

Mrs. Turbes is out this week enjoying time as a grandma in Colorado. She's still pushing reading and literacy skills though, just to a younger audience. Here she is seen with her grandson Charlie (3 months). It's never too early to snuggle up with a good book! Mrs. Lyons is subbing for Mrs. Turbes, who will be back next week.

Operetta Week, Holy Week

As the older students prepare for and share the Operetta performances, the younger students have had a chance to learn about and see the various components that go into a production like this. They were able to go on the stage and see the props being used, look at the various set pieces, see how the lights work to help tell the story, and learn how sound equipment is used to help the audience hear what is happening. I hope you are able to attend a performance and share in the fun!

Next week begins one of the most important weeks of the year: Holy Week. Starting with Palm Sunday on March 29th and ending with Easter on April 5th, this week of solemn reflection is a wonderful time to slow down and focus on the presence of the divine in our lives. Please join us for our Holy Week school Mass on Tuesday, March 31st.

PE in St. Bernadette Hall

This week has been filled with friendly competition down in St. Bernadette Hall. Students have had and will have the opportunity to engage in Yard Games in a different space as the Cast and Crew prepare for Operetta. PreK through 1st Grade are focused on underhand tossing a bean bag from various distances, depending on success, and competing in Bocce Ball. The main emphasis revolves around stepping with the opposite foot when tossing or rolling a ball. Not only does this mimic the action of throwing, but also clears the hip to allow an unrestricted range of motion. 2nd through 8th Grade are competing in Bocce Ball, Cornhole, and Ladders. The rules differ for each game, which means the strategies change as well. So far there have been quality competitions across grade levels and significant improvement from the 1st and 2nd day. We will continue with Yard Games next week, and return to the gymnasium the following week.

Technology Tidbits

It has been another exciting week of learning, creating, and problem-solving in Technology Class! Here is a quick peek at what our students have been up to:

PreK: Exploring the Magic of Rainbows

After a fun discussion about the science behind how rainbows are formed, the students created their very own using pipe cleaners and playdough. They did a fantastic job, and it was wonderful to see them beaming with pride over their beautiful creations.

1st Grade: Future Engineers at Work

The 1st graders got to test their engineering skills this week creating bridges. We discussed the professionals who design them and looked at various architectural styles. Then, using paper and tin foil, students built their own structural designs and tested their strength against different materials. It was incredible to see their creativity, teamwork, and friendly competitive spirit shine through during this project!

3rd Grade: Hands-On Coding

This week, the 3rd graders started a new unit using Kubo Robots. These unique robots are a fantastic tool for reinforcing early coding skills. Instead of using an online coding program, students use a hands on "tag tile" puzzle system to piece together commands and program their robots' movements. It is a great way to make complex coding concepts tangible and engaging.
