Canvas Security Incident Update – May 8, 2026
Petersburg School District is aware of the cybersecurity incident affecting Canvas, the learning management system used by our schools. Instructure, the company that operates Canvas, temporarily took the platform offline on May 7th as a precautionary measure while addressing the issue.
Canvas is now fully restored and available for use by students and staff.
Instructure’s CEO has confirmed directly to Petersburg School District that there is no evidence that any PSD account credentials were compromised or that any additional data was taken from our institution.
We will continue to monitor the situation and share updates as needed. For the latest information from Instructure, visit: instructure.com/incident_update

8th Graders: The Future Is Calling!
The final stretch of middle school isn't just a countdown to summer — it's a launchpad! The 8th graders are preparing for what comes next.
First up, students are exploring careers that spark their interest. What do they want to be someday? From there, they'll dive into the world of education and training after high school — think colleges, trade programs, apprenticeships, and more. They'll wrap things up by navigating high school and building their very own 9th grade class schedule.
