It's MCAS Season It's MCAS Season

zoom_out_map

MCAS begins this week, with the 10th grade ELA test this Tuesday, March 25 and Wednesday. March 26. Testing will begin right at 8:00am. While this year's 10th grade test have lower stress associated with it as (as passing it is no longer a state graduation requirement), it's still essential that all students try their best to demonstrate their capabilities. For example:

  • MCAS results will still be used by the state to determine eligibility for the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship, and the Koplik Scholarship. Both of these offer scholarships to students who attend any state college or university in the Commonwealth, and those scholarships are renewable for all years of attendance at the college or university.
  • MCAS performance data at the student level will still be used as part of the determination to decide if students are in need of additional support, which can affect their junior year schedule.
  • MCAS data at the grade and school level will still be used by the state to evaluate schools for what they call the yearly "accountability report."

The remaining MCAS dates this spring are:

  • Grade 7 & 8 ELA - Tuesday, 4/15 and Wednesday, 4/16
  • Grade 8 Civics part 1 - Thursday, 5/1
  • Grade 8 Science - Wednesday, 5/7 and Thursday, 5/8
  • Grade 7 & 8 Math - Wednesday, 5/14 and Thursday, 5/15
  • Grade 10 Math - Tuesday, 5/20 and Wednesday, 5/21
  • Grade 8 Civics part 2 - Wednesday, 5/28
  • High School Biology - Wednesday, 6/4 and Thursday, 6/5

March Interim Grade Report March Interim Grade Report

After 3:00pm this Friday, March 28 we will issue the monthly Interim Grade Reports. Copies will be emailed to all students and their parents/guardians. This grade report can have an impact on students' eligibility for co-curricular activities including sports:

  • For a student who may not have initial eligibility based on the January report card but was allowed to try out because of the closeness in date to this grade report, this IGR can get them eligible. Otherwise, they may not be on the team.
  • For a student who was initially eligible due to the January report card, if they are not meeting the requirements on the March IGR, they will be placed on probation until the April IGR. If they are still not meeting the requirements on the April IGR, they are removed from the team.
  • For a student who was already on probationary status due to the January report card, they are removed from the team.
