LEADERSHIP LETTER LEADERSHIP LETTER

Dear Legacy Academy Community,

In the last few weeks, it seems the hectic pace of life has been accelerating. Maybe that is true, or maybe it is just a few extra work items I’m busy with right now. Either way, I have been dwelling on the simple things quite a bit. I do think the computer world we live in causes some added stress and strain that didn’t exist 50 years ago (yes, I’m old enough to remember). This has me contemplating the idea of “simple things”.

These simple things could also be the basics of any situation: basic food, strong relationships, traditional values, celebrating liberty, and honest living. These kinds of ideas and their personal faith are what got my grandparents through two world wars. In our current chaotic times, I encourage you to hold on to the basics, and maybe even have a conversation with someone who has been through decades of life.

For me, this also reflects back to the ethos of Legacy Academy, where we emphasize character,

excellence, and community as part of the everyday experience. It is part of what I enjoy about my work here. I trust you are having a good day as you read this, but if not, hold on to the simple, basic values of lives well lived. Character, excellence, and community are good place to start.

Have a great week filled with the blessings of liberty,

Merlin Holmes

Executive Director

Congratulations to Chris Powell as our ESD Staff Star of The Week sponsored by Fox’s Pizza Den-Elizabeth, CO. Mr. Powell runs the band program at Legacy Academy. At the beginning of the year, he brought his students to the State Capitol to perform for School Choice Week. The students gave an excellent performance!

The individual who nominated him said, "Mr Powell has been working hard to start an elementary band program after school while maintaining a culture of excellence in his music classes during the school day. His extra time and commitment allows students to partake in enriching musical activities!"

Mr. Powell was given a free entree at Fox's Pizza Den. We surprised him with it right in the middle of his class. His students played an impromptu celebratory tune afterwards. Way to go!

Is there an ESD employee that you would like to nominate?

We invite you to fill out the form at the link below and describe why you feel the individual should be recognized for the ESD Staff Star of The Week! Submit for ESD Staff Star of The Week here!

We celebrate our students in many ways including character education. Our elementary students have R.O.A.R. Store and students of the week while our middle school students have a T.W.I.X. program. In our lunchroom, we have a Kindness Hero Award as well. All students have moments of recognition during assemblies that build confidence, encourage positive choices, and strengthen our school community. As we approach Dr. Seuss Week, we look forward to celebrating the joy of reading and creativity of his stories. Students may celebrate Dr. Seuss Week by participating in our themed dress days. Students can either dress in the theme of the day or wear a uniform. Dr. Seuss books and math sheets will offer an opportunity to support our curriculum in a joyful way. His text supports critical thinking, creative expression, literacy development, such as rhyming, phonemic awareness, vocabulary and comprehension skills.

Spring K-3 Concert Spring K-3 Concert

Hi all! I am so excited for our students to present our next performance for you. Students are expected to arrive at 5:30pm to their classrooms to check in for attendance. It is important students arrive on time so they are not marked absent for the concert. Students in kindergarten, first grade, and second grade are expected to dress in nice, formal attire, OR they may dress up for the theme of "space." Either is completely acceptable as long as it is school appropriate. Third graders are expected to have their recorders, as their performance is based off of their performance of their recorders they should have them at the school that week or they risk having to miss the concert. Third graders should dress in nice, formal attire as well.
