Dear MUHS Students and Families,

Apologies for the delayed newsletter this week!

The week ahead includes a Relocation Drill on Tuesday, May 5. We will practice evacuating the school and relocating to the Unitarian Universalist Church to the north and to the Middlebury Rec Center to the south. Big thanks to our neighbors for accommodating us! It looks like Tuesday could be rainy, so encourage students to grab a coat before they head out that morning!

We have our last early release day of the year on Wednesday, May 6. School is out at 12:40, allowing teachers time for collaboration and learning between 1:30 and 4:30.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Warmly,

Caitlin Steele, Principal

Ben Weir, Assistant Principal

Sean Farrell, Activities Director

Julie Pettis, Student Response Coordinator

Rotary Speech Contest

Congratulations to Taryn, District Finalist for the Rotary Speech Contest!

Taryn B continues her successful run in the 2026 Rotary Speech Contest. On April 18, 2026, Taryn competed against 10 other high school speech contestants from Vermont and Quebec. Her speech addresses the question, “How can we be instruments of peace?” and her compelling content and delivery secured her win. She has earned $1,000 so far and will attend the fourth, and final round, on June 13th in Orford, Quebec, Canada in the hopes of becoming the District 7850 Champion! Best of luck, Taryn!

SCOHR travels to Puerto Rico!

Ten members of the Student Coalition on Human Rights (SCOHR) traveled to Puerto Rico over April break. This service-learning trip included trail maintenance in the El Yunque Rainforest, beach clean up, painting at an Equine Therapy nonprofit organization, weeding a community garden, and environmental restoration of a seaside forest in San Juan. They also learned about the Puerto Rican cultural tradition of “parranda” and played music with a local trio of musicians. It was an amazing experience!
