OWL NEWS
VOLUME 3 - AUGUST 30, 2025
WELCOME BACK, OWLS!
We’re off to an incredible start at Riverside! Our scholars are diving into learning with enthusiasm as we launch our curriculum across all grade levels. In our K–2 classrooms, students are engaging with Structured Literacy, while grades K–5 are exploring Into Reading. Middle school scholars in grades 6–8 are delving into Into Literature, and Into Math is underway building strong mathematical foundations across the building. We also spent the week taking our Math i-Ready benchmarking assessments.
We’re also excited to introduce our new Social Emotional Learning curriculum, Second Step. This week’s lessons have focused on goal setting and classroom expectations, helping students build the skills they need to thrive both academically and socially.
To reinforce our shared values, Ms. Kama-Starr and Mr. Cohen visited classrooms to discuss our school-wide expectations: being safe, respectful, and responsible—the Riverside Way!
It’s truly been a fantastic beginning to the academic year. Thank you for your continued partnership and support!

FROM NURSE UPPERMAN
Hello Riverside Families,
Nurse Upperman here! I’m very excited to share some wonderful news—we’re partnering with Cleveland Clinic this school year to bring high-quality medical care directly to Riverside!
Each month, the Cleveland Clinic Mobile Health Van will be on-site to provide a variety of services for our students, including:
- Well visits and annual physicals
- Immunizations and updates to existing immunizations
- Mental health support and evaluations
- Care for chronic health conditions
- Adolescent reproductive health services
If you’re interested in having your child seen by the Cleveland Clinic team, please take a moment to fill out this form. Once completed, a member of the Cleveland Clinic staff will reach out to schedule your child’s appointment during the school day on a date when the van is here. Please note, this is to support your regular physician and this will not replace your regular provider.

We’re thrilled to offer this opportunity to support the health and well-being of our Riverside students!
Warmly,

PTC CORNER
The Parent Teacher Council (PTC) is thrilled to kick off another amazing school year! We invite all families to join us for our first PTC meeting on Tuesday, September 9th at 6:00 PM in the Riverside Cafeteria. Whether you're a returning member or new to our community, all are welcome!
📚 We’re also excited to announce the return of the Scholastic Book Fair, running from September 10th through September 16th. Scholars will have the opportunity to shop during their lunch/recess periods, so feel free to send them with money if they’d like to purchase books.
🙋♀️ Interested in volunteering at the Book Fair? Please check out the post on ClassDojo from Ms. Davis, PTC President, for more details.
ATTENDANCE
- Please call the office (216-838-6700) if your child will not be at school.
- Scholars are tardy after 9:35AM.
- Scholars will not be released early from school without the office receiving communication and consent from a family member by 3:30PM. We also ask that scholars are not picked up between 3:00PM - 4:05PM. This is to support our preparations for dismissal.
