Hello R-PEL Families!

You should have heard from your child’s teacher about scheduling upcoming conferences. Along with our regular communication throughout the year, this provides another opportunity to connect, ask questions and work together to support your student’s success.

While conferences are a great time to talk, please remember that communication doesn’t have to wait, you are always welcome to reach out to teachers at any time.

We look forward to connecting with you!

If you have any questions or need help, please reach out to us.

Capturing Kids' Hearts

Did you know that R-PEL is a two year in a row National Showcase School for CKH?

What is Capturing Kids' Hearts? CKH is a program for teachers that focuses on building strong, positive relationships between students and staff to foster a safe and supportive school environment.

You may have heard your kids talking about their Social Contract in their classroom, if not, ask them what that is!

March's Theme is Courage

What is Courage?

Courage is the ability and strength to face something that may be difficult or challenging. Courage is not the absence of fear but rather perseverance in the presence of fear and the willingness to stand up for what is right or try something new, even though it may be uncomfortable or uncertain.

Child Car Seat & Seat Belt Rules (Ages 0–13) - UPDATED APRIL 2, 2025

Michigan Safety Guidelines — Simple Guide for Families

🚗 Where Should Kids Sit?

  • Children under 13 years old should ride in the back seat whenever possible.

  • If all back seats are taken by other kids, then the child may ride in the front seat.

  • Rear-facing seats may go in the front only if the airbag is turned off.

👶 Infant to 2 Years

Rear-Facing Car Seat

  • Must ride rear-facing until age 2
OR until they reach the seat’s height/weight limit.

🧒 Ages 2 to 5

Forward-Facing Car Seat

  • After outgrowing rear-facing, use a forward-facing seat until age 5
OR until they reach that seat’s height/weight limit.

🧒➡️👦 Ages 5 to 8

Booster Seat

  • Use a booster with a lap-shoulder belt until age 8
OR until the child is 4 ft. 9 in. tall.

👦➡️🧑 Ages 8 to 13

Regular Seat Belt

  • Child uses a properly fitting seat belt.

  • Should stay in the back seat when possible.

💡 Safety Tip

Keep your child in each type of seat as long as they fit, based on the manufacturer’s height/weight rules.

⚠️ Reminder

Not following these rules may result in a civil infraction (a ticket).
