Ramadan

Starting Tuesday, February 17th, we are launching a dual-themed display to honor two beautiful traditions overlapping this month: Lunar New Year and Ramadan.

What’s on the Shelves?

We’ve curated a special collection of picture books, folk tales, and non-fiction titles that explore:

  • Lunar New Year: The Year of the Horse, traditional foods, and the symbolism of red envelopes.

  • Ramadan: Stories of community, reflection, and the significance of the crescent moon.

How to Use the Display:

  • Read-Aloud Inspiration: If you’re looking for a specific story to tie into your social studies or ELA lessons, we've highlighted a few "Librarian Favorites" with emoji bookmarks inside the covers.

We love seeing the library act as a window to the world. Swing by next week to see the display and some beautiful decorations!

🥽 Help Us Build a Virtual Reality Experience in the LRC! 🥽 Help Us Build a Virtual Reality Experience in the LRC!

Our VR collection is a hit! To keep the momentum going, we are planning a VR Book Station for use during LRC visits and need your help! This new station gives students the chance to virtually immerse themselves in the topics they are reading about, exploring everything from deep oceans to distant planets right here in the LRC.

How you can help: We are looking for donations of old smartphones (iPhone or Android) to serve as the display screens for our VR headsets.

Safety & Security Note: We know that "phones in school" can be a concern, so please rest assured:

  • These devices will be wiped and used strictly as VR displays.

  • They will not have cellular service or be used for communication.

  • The devices will never leave the LRC.

If you have an old device gathering dust in a drawer, please consider dropping it off at the circulation desk!

🖥️ State Testing Update: New IAR/ISA Document Hub 🖥️ State Testing Update: New IAR/ISA Document Hub

To help streamline our preparation for the upcoming state testing window for grades 3-5, we are excited to introduce the new IAR/ISA Interface for document organization and storage.

IAR/ISA Document Hub

This centralized hub is designed to be your "one-stop shop" for all things state testing—from administration manuals and proctor scripts to accommodation guides and student readiness resources. By moving these materials into a unified interface, we hope to reduce "search fatigue" and ensure everyone has the most current versions of required documents.

🔍 We Need Your Eyes!

Since this is a new system, we want to ensure the organization makes sense for those "in the trenches." As you explore the new interface, please consider:

  • Is the folder structure intuitive?

  • Are you able to find specific grade-level scripts quickly?

  • Is there any essential documentation you feel is missing?

📝 Share Your Thoughts

We have set up a "Parking Lot" document to collect your professional feedback. Please add any comments, questions, or suggestions for improvement so we can refine the system before testing begins.

Parking Lot Document

Thank you for your patience and collaboration as we work to make this year's testing season as organized as possible!

🎬 Production Update

Just a heads-up that I will begin editing the footage on February 15th, so please keep those recordings rolling in!

🙋‍♀️ Extra, Extra!

I may need a few "backup readers" to help cover any remaining chapters as we get closer to the finish line of March 6th. If you’re open to reading an extra chapter or two if I reach out, please let me know via G-Chat, email, or just catch me face-to-face in the halls!

Thank you for all your participation thusfar!

Tech Tidbits and Information

Chromebook Troubleshooting Tips

Here's a how-to slideshow with some basic troubleshooting tips for chromebooks. It includes information on how to fix a sideways screen, clearing your cache and turning off accessibility mode.

Vivi Updates - Extended Screen

For those who wanted to extend their desktops instead of mirror your screen you now can! Using the desktop vivi app you can set up multiple screens. Here's a quick how-to from microsoft or please reach out to Kristine to help!

YouTube Update

Elementary students cannot access YouTube as of June 2025. While this has its good points it may create a wrinkle in your teaching if you want students to utilize secondary video sources. If you have any questions or need support finding other options please reach out to Kristine. :)

Daily Sub Tech Capabilities

New this year, daily subs will use a chromebook issued from the LRC. These devices can connect to Vivi using classlink, however, daily subs do not have the ability to print.

They also do not have access to many Classlink and instructional apps. Please keep this in mind when you are planning an absence.

Below is a snapshot of what you're daily substitute will see in classlink.
