Cole Miners' Dig

Principal's Notes
Today was the 121st day of school and the last day of the second trimester! That means there are only 59 days left in this school year, and we have so much planned for those days! There are many upcoming dates for events listed below. Please be sure to mark your calendars. Report cards will be available next Friday in Aspen.
We've had a great week at Cole School and kicked it off with a Connections meeting where every group read the book The I in Integrity by Julia Cook. Then we heard some Irish music performed by Cole School parent, Mr. Kaszuba and his friend Dave. The students absolutely loved it! We ended the week with the 5th grade students learning more about Norwell Middle School from the principal, Mr. Dupille. There was a lot of learning happening around the building. Be sure to check out the classroom newsletters for grade level updates!
Next week we'll be celebrating Neurodiversity Week! We'll start each day off with a quote during announcements and then each class will read a book, watch a short video, or complete an activity to help them learn about the importance of neurodiversity.
What is neurodiversity?
Everyone’s brain works differently - they think, learn and process information differently
Everyone has a differently-wired brain and their own unique way of thinking and experiencing the world
Respecting differences
Neurodiversity is about recognizing and respecting that we don’t all learn the same way
Differences in the way our brains are wired means that you may find some things challenging that others find easy. You may also find things easy that others find challenging
We each have our own strengths and challenges
Why We Celebrate Neurodiversity Week
To remind us that no matter what our differences or challenges, everyone has their own strengths and talents
To recognize that many people who have struggled in school are now very successful in life
To understand that many believe their success is because of their unique way of thinking and perceiving the world around them
School Crossing Guard Appreciation Day is Wednesday, March 20th! Thanks to generous donations, we'll be showering Mrs. Wood with a basket of thanks! Feel free to drop off any cards or notes your children make for her.

School Counselor's Corner
This week, students learned about integrity through Cole Connections. Next week we'll continue this unit while celebrating Neurodiversity Week! With the warmer weather, I am hearing about some spring fever at recess. I have been asking students and grade levels to think of other things they might like to try at recess if games like soccer or kickball don't feel fun or are too competitive. If you are doing spring cleaning and have any used outdoor activities you'd like to donate, we now have a beautiful outdoor storage shed and we will gladly take some new recess options! (Things like KanJam, chalk, giant jenga, frisbees, etc). Please just let me know!
Specialists' Scoop
Using lollipop paddles and different size balls (eggs), K-2 (farmers) worked on their striking skills while trying to achieve different levels in a game called Farmer Frenzy. With teamwork and sportsmanship, Grades 3-5 played singles and doubles games of Pickleball.
