  • Shares recorded videos and online sessions on helpful topics for busy Learning Coaches - new and/or veteran LC's.
  • Offers live sessions for mental health and other topics.
  • Gives recognition for our hard-working Learning Coaches. Who doesn't like a surprise in the mail? Let us celebrate your learning with you, just as your student grows this year, too.

Learning - Students Need One Year of Academic Growth Each School Year! Learning - Students Need One Year of Academic Growth Each School Year!

We want to see students learning!

What does it mean to have a year of growth in each school year? It means the student makes steady progress in learning, measured by formative assessment and summative assessment.

  • Formative assessment takes place on a continuous basis within the lessons and live class sessions.
  • Summative assessment takes place once or twice per year.

Like any Ohio public school, we have the opportunity to show what we know and so we participate in both kinds of assessment. We are a public, online, charter school.

  • Depending on the student's grade level, fall formative or summative testing may occur.
  • Our End of Year course summative assessments may happen fall and spring as well, for HS students.
  • Our big summative assessments are usually in the spring.

Active Learning

Here are examples of active learning for you!

What is Active Learning? It means students engage with the material, participate in the class, and collaborate with one another. Thus, we don't want your students simply to listen and memorize; instead have them help demonstrate a process, analyse an argument, or apply a concept to a real-world situation. Play is real-world testing of ideas. Active learning means demonstrating, discussing, practicing, and teaching others. Expand! Learning gets more complex as students grow...

Here is the view on Bloom's Taxonomy - a way of showing how learning becomes more complex.

Using Bloom’s Taxonomy of Thinking Skills, the goal is to move students •from lower- to higher-order thinking •from knowledge (information gathering) •to comprehension (confirming) •to application (making use of knowledge) •to analysis (taking information apart) •to evaluation (judging the outcome) •to synthesis (putting information together) and creative generation of ideas •The overall aim is to increase thinking skills further so that students not only learn but learn about ...
