Wixom Howler Edition 29

March 30, 2025

Wixom HowlerEdition 29March 30, 2025

Hello Wixom families,

I hope you have enjoyed the past week! As a parent, I remember loving the little things about time off from school...not packing lunches, no homework and a relaxed bedtime routine! As we return from Spring Break, we will be settling in for our final stretch of the school year!

The upcoming months will be busy, in addition to the continued daily instruction, students in grades 3rd - 5th will be taking MStep and all students (K - 5th) will be taking the final iReady Diagnostic. I know we will also have lots fun in the coming months too! We will officially kick the fun with our annual Spring Carnival this Saturday, April 5th. I hope to see you there! Many grade levels/classes have field trips and other special events planned in the coming months as well! Along with the many activities and warming weather, I know it will be a great finish to the 2024-2025 school year and I am so lucky to spend this time with you and your students!

Have a great week!

MStep Testing Begins

MStep testing will begin in April. MSTEP (Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress) is an important statewide assessment that measures student achievement in key academic areas, including English Language Arts, Mathematics for 3rd and 4th graders and includes Science, and Social Studies too for our 5th graders. It’s crucial for students to get a good night’s rest and be on time for testing, as we will be administering the assessments in the morning when everyone is fresh and ready to do their best.

We ask that you make your best effort to ensure your child is present on testing days. Please try to refrain from trips or appointments if possible on those days. Obviously, if your child is ill, he or she should recover at home. Absent students will be required to take make-up tests on alternate dates and miss classroom instruction. We appreciate your support!

The testing window for grades 3rd - 5th grade is April 7 - May 15. a testing schedule will communicated in the Howler and classroom teachers will also communicate their specific testing dates.

SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH GOVERNOR WHITMER

Potential changes to the U.S. Department of Education could significantly impact Michigan schools, affecting funding for low-income schools, special education, school meals, and college affordability.

With nearly 10% of Michigan’s education budget coming from federal funding, these cuts could challenge our students’ ability to learn and succeed.

Governor Whitmer wants to hear your thoughts on these proposed changes. Make your voice heard, and fill out the survey today.

PTA ACTION ALERT - PROTECT PUBLIC SCHOOLS

A bill called the Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA) was recently introduced in Congress. The bill would create the first ever nationalized voucher system, redirecting billions of taxpayer dollars away from public schools towards private and religious institutions and homeschooling.

The National PTA encourages families to contact your members of Congress, urging them to oppose ECCA.
