Message from the Health Office
The cold and flu season is upon us. Please remember if your student is not feeling well to keep them home until they are feeling better.
Influenza can be severe, and it's important to protect yourself and others. If your child is sick, please keep them at home.
If you're not sure if your child has the flu, or something else, ask these questions: Is there a fever? Are there other symptoms such as a cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills, diarrhea or vomiting? If the answer is YES to either, your child should stay home.
Ways to protect yourself and your family are to ensure everyone has a flu shot, wash hands thoroughly, drink plenty of fluids, get plenty of rest and stay home when ill.
When to Keep Your Student Home From School:
Fever- Does your child have a fever over 100 degrees F. orally? Temperature should remain normal (98.6 degrees) for 24 hours without any fever reducing medication (acetaminophen, ibuprofen) before returning to school
Sore throat- Is it accompanied by fever, headache, stomachache or swollen glands?
Vomiting- Has your child vomited two or more times in a 24 hour period?
Diarrhea- Has there been more than one occurrence in a 24 hour period?
Eyes- Are your child’s eyes crusty, bright red and/or discharging yellow or green fluid?
Nasal discharge (yellow or greenish)- Is there colorful nasal mucus that is accompanied by a fever or other symptoms of an upper respiratory infection?
Cough- Does your child have a persistent, productive cough?
Appearance/ Behavior- Is your child unusually tired, pale, have a lack of appetite, difficult to awaken, or confused?
If you answered YES to any of these questions, please keep your child home from school and consider seeking medical attention.
If you have any questions, please reach out to the Cumberland Health Office. (847-824-1462)
Be well and stay healthy,
Andrea Perrone and Melissa Matulewicz

Cumberland Student Science Fair (optional)
As students begin working on their Science Fair projects, we are excited to provide families with optional poster board templates to help organize and present their students’ work.
There are two different templates available based on grade level:
Please select the template that corresponds with your child’s grade level. Families are welcome to print and use these templates to help create their child’s Science Fair display.
If your family needs a template printed for you, please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Greco (grecoc@d62.org) or Mrs. Fergus (ferguse@d62.org), and we would be happy to help.
For additional information about the Science Fair, including directions and examples for using the templates, please visit our Science Fair Google Slides presentation Link.
Thank you for supporting our students as they explore, ask questions, and engage in the scientific process!
Absence Requests in Infinite Campus
Parents and guardians can use the Absence Request tool to submit a request that informs the office in advance when their student is not going to be in school. After the request is processed, Campus creates an attendance record for the student. Phone calls will still be accepted.

Cumberland Monthly PBIS Focus - November
Positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) is an approach schools use to promote school safety and good behavior. This month students are learning about: using good manners. During social emotional learning time, they will work through class discussions, listen to read alouds from staff, and engage in other activities with their class centered around the monthly focus.
One way you can support this monthly focus at home is to have conversations with your child(ren) about our monthly themes.
Thank you for your continued partnership in education.
