LEARNING CONFERENCES

On Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th September, we are hosting parent and teacher learning conferences.

These meetings are a valuable opportunity to hear about your child’s learning and progress, ask questions, and share your thoughts so that we can work together as partners in your child’s education. They serve as an important bridge between the mid-year and end-of-year reports, giving you a clear picture of how your child’s learning is tracking.

Since the meetings are limited in time it's worthwhile for you and your child to do some preparation in order to make the most of this opportunity:

  • Think about what you have noticed about your child's work or the way they talk about learning
  • Talk to your child about how they feel about school and anything they are really enjoying, finding too easy or too difficult
  • Ask your child if there's anything they want to talk about with the teacher
  • Go over the last school report or recent school work and write down any questions you have about them.
  • When meeting with your child's teacher, you might like to ask:
Does my child participate well in class?

Is my child progressing as expected?

What are their strengths?

What areas need more support, and how can I help at home?

How well do they connect with others?

Are there any areas of concern I should be aware of?

We strongly encourage all parents and whānau to attend — our goal is 100% attendance for every class so that every child benefits from this shared partnership.

You can book a learning conference using the Skool Loop app - simply go into the app and click on Bookings, then follow the prompts. If you need any assistance with making a booking, please contact the school office who will be happy to help you.

DEALING WITH CONFLICT DEALING WITH CONFLICT

Using your WITS is a helpful method for teaching children how to de-escalate conflicts and handle situations in a positive way. WITS stands for:

Walk away: Encourage children to walk away from a situation where they feel unsafe or are being provoked. This helps avoid escalating the conflict.

I messages: Teach children to respectfully use “I messages” to let the person let the other person know that their behaviour or words are unkind, e.g., “I don’t like what you are saying, I need you to stop”.

Tell someone: If the situation doesn’t improve or if the conflict escalates, children should be taught to seek help from an adult, such as a teacher.

Stay calm: Remaining calm will help the situation getting worse and allow everyone to make better choices.

It’s that easy! So why not try using this at home…

PROPAGATION DAY PROPAGATION DAY

Room 13 have been lucky to be involved in another propagation day with Bill Clarkson. It was a very successful time with the children transplanting 145 plants they have grown from seed, including transplanting bigger plants from previous years into larger planter bags. This involved a good range of species, including nikau, tawa, kohekohe, pukatea, titoki, mahoe and others. Brilliant!

READING NIGHTS READING NIGHTS

We recognise the individual efforts of children reading outside of school hours with certificates that acknowledge the number of nights that they have read. Children are awarded a certificate for every 25 nights of reading that they do. A night is a minimum of 10 minutes reading for children in the Taranaki syndicate, 15 minutes for children in the Huatoki syndicate, and 20 minutes for students in the Paetoki syndicate. With certificates being given out it is important that children are having their reading signed off by a parent at home on a daily basis
