PASD StaffNewsletter NEWS & NOTES November 18, 2022

Marty's Minute

Thank you to everyone who helped share the news about our open staffing positions. We've seen an increase in applications, and hopefully, this will alleviate some of the additional work we've all had to do to keep our schools open.

We are still looking for special education teachers, sub-custodians, sub-bus drivers, and permanent paraprofessionals. If you know of anyone looking to start a rewarding career and work with a quality team like ours, please encourage their application.

School Board Meeting with Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe

On Thursday, November 10th, the Board of Directors held the annual meeting with the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribal Council to honor our government-to-government partnership.

The Board and Tribal Council heard from staff who work throughout the district teaching Klallam Language, hosting educational programs, and providing student and staff support with our Native American Interventionist and Liaison teams. They also reviewed reports showing the rise in graduation rates amongst our Native students and uncovered areas where we can better support our students.

The Board expressed deep gratitude to the Tribe and support staff members for their time and willingness to strengthen our government-to-government partnership.

Stevens Middle School - Expansion Update

During the November 10th Board of Directors meeting, the board unanimously approved the hiring of Integrus Architecture to manage the design, project execution, and construction of Stevens Middle School. Integrus will partner with Vanir Construction Management Company and PASD for this project.

The design phase kicked off on Tuesday, November 15th, at Stevens Middle School with staff and the Port Angeles Capital Advisory Committee members. During this time, the design team shared their hopes, concerns, and ideas on building the best school for our students, staff, and community!

Next up, Integrus will spend an entire day at Stevens Middle School to watch how students move throughout the building and use the existing space. They will also meet with students to hear their ideas about a new school. Stay tuned!

TJ Hoving, Integrus Graphic Designer, talked about the importance of placemaking and how to incorporate our environment, community, and region into our design phase.
Shout-out to our amazing chef, Kimberly Brown. I walked through the cafeteria while she was cooking, and it smelled SO GOOD! I went up to the kitchen to see what the amazing smell was, and it was HOT DOGS. She made hot dogs look and smell FANTASTIC, and judging by how the kids inhaled them, they tasted pretty awesome too. I have never, ever in my life have I been enticed by a hotdog. Kimberly also did an outstanding job of doing the impossible task of making 300 bagged lunches every day for 4 days during parent-teacher conference week. She had to do some creative thinking to make that happen! Kimberly is a miracle worker! 😊 - Rachel Picard, Dry Creek Secretary
