Our New Assistant Principal
Announcement Regarding Our New AP
Welcome Mr. Shawn Woodie!
Introducing Assistant Principal Shawn Woodie
Dear Nichols Community,
After an extensive interview process, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Shawn Woodie as the new assistant principal for Nichols Middle School! Mr. Woodie’s appointment was approved by the School Board at Monday’s meeting, and he is scheduled to start at Nichols tomorrow, Wednesday, November 19, 2025.
Mr. Woodie comes to us from Vernon Hills High School, where he taught social studies and was named the 2023 Lake County High School Teacher of the Year! One of the highlights of his career was writing and implementing his former district’s first African American Studies curriculum and piloting the AP African American Studies course. He has also taught middle school English Language Arts and social studies and served as a reading specialist.
He brings a strong belief that meaningful leadership begins with serving others, building positive relationships, and creating opportunities for all students and staff to thrive. We are excited to see him do just that at Nichols! Mr. Woodie has expressed a desire to build an inclusive culture where learning is both challenging and joyful — something that fits our goal of fostering a powerful sense of belonging that enables all students to confidently take on the cognitive lift that ensures a learning experience that is both engaging and fun.
Outside of school, he enjoys reading history books, bicycling, traveling overseas for mission work, and serving in his church.
Please join me in welcoming Mr. Woodie! We are so excited to have him join our team!
In partnership,
Nicole Fishman (she/her)
