West Hills STEM Academy News
December 2021 and January 2022
An Update From Principal Melissa Rohr
As we head into a two week break and come back out in a new year, students have the need to "start over". At school we treat these first days back like the first days of school. We reteach expectations and reintroduce concepts and ideas that may of been lost over the two week break.
At home you can help us by asking your student about their day. Ask them what they liked the best in their day. Guiding them to a positive response rather than a totally open ended, "What did you do at school today?" focuses them on the happy things happening and prepares them for a proactive day the next day.
Attendance and punctuality are essential to ensuring that your child gets the most out of their time at school. They are important life skills that your child will need as they become young adults and enter the world of work. Research shows that attendance and punctuality are extremely important factors in building school success. Please help us by making sure your student is at school by 9:05 everyday.
If your student has any cold or flu symptoms please keep them at home and call us to excuse their absence. We will then guide you as to whether they will need testing, return, or stay home. We are always here to answer any questions. Please enjoy a restful holiday season and we will see you next year!

FREE therapy available to all Bremerton School District students and staff
The mental health of our students is a top priority. That’s why we’re offering a free new service: Gaggle Teletherapy.
If your student is feeling sad, hopeless, angry, or anxious—or having challenges with family, friends, or relationships—therapy could help.
Gaggle Therapy is a free, confidential option to connect weekly with a therapist online and on your student’s schedule. Students can be referred by a teacher, counselor or parent, and students age 13 and older can self-refer.
