Little Pearls Learning Update

November

What another busy and exciting month in Little Pearls Nursery, we have enjoyed so many things this last month, with the highlight this week, not only one but two school trips!

Our first trip to the cinema was a first for many of our youngest children and we were blown away with how we they behaved and sat for the film. Our second trip to Santa's Secret Forest, was truly magical and it was a joy to watch the magic through the children's eyes. Again, we were blown away with how well our Little Pearls managed such a long journey and long day!! They have done us proud as always!!

A recap of what we have learnt about throughout this last month:

We have continued learning about our families and celebrations, we have enjoyed looking at pictures of our families and especially guessing who is in the baby photos.

During phonics, the N2s have been enjoying 'What's in the box' focusing on a new sound each week and playing lots of listening games.

In maths we have been learning to count in strings up to 5, which we have been doing through songs and counting games such as 'What time is it Mr wolf?'.

We try to get down onto the field as often as possible, we are now lucky enough to have a fantastic summer house, which is perfect for shelter to keep cosy on the colder days. The children have helped dig a huge hole in our area, we then waited for the rain and had so much fun jumping in the muddy puddles! We have enjoyed exploring lots of aspects of nature and noticing the change in the weather, melting ice has been the highlight of outdoor play this week.

December

What another busy and exciting time in Little Pearls Nursery, we have enjoyed so many things over the last couple of weeks

Our trip to the Panto was a first for many of our youngest children and we were blown away with how we they behaved and sat for the show. It was a brilliant show that had us laughing, singing, and dancing.

We took part in our Nativity, this year as a flock of little lambs, the children all worked really hard learning their songs and did so well singing in front of our three different audiences.

A recap of what we have learnt about throughout this last month:

We have focused on developing pencil control and mark making, using our skills to write Christmas cards and labels, in our Christmas post office and Santa's grotto.

During phonics, the N2s have been enjoying 'What's in the box' focusing on a new sound each week and playing lots of listening games.

In maths we have been recognising patterns and repeats, through songs, stories, objects, and actions.

We try to get down onto the field as often as possible, on the 10th we enjoyed welcoming our nursery parents to come and join in with our festive activities on the field. We enjoyed making reindeer food, weaving nature trees, having hot chocolates, and making mud reindeer jars.

This week we had great fun at our Christmas party and had a special visit from Santa who brought us an early gift!

We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, we look forward to seeing you in the new year.

A Magical Christmas Trip to Santa's Secret Forest

We are thrilled to share the enchanting details of our recent school trip to Santa's Secret Forest! The children absolutely loved every minute, making memories that will last a lifetime.

Our adventure was packed with festive activities:

· Talking to the elves: The children chatted with Santa's helpers and learned about life at the North Pole.

· Dancing with the elves: The elves taught the children some of their favourite festive dances.

· A magic train ride and magical elevator: The journey through the village was made even more exciting with a special train and elevator ride.

· Meeting Santa himself! The highlight of the trip was a personal meeting with Father Christmas in his cosy cabin.

The journey through the village was picturesque, featuring a twinkling forest, snow-topped trees, and a magical light tunnel.

The children were fantastic and a true credit to the school throughout the trip. It was truly an honour to take them and make some wonderful memories with them.

English: Drawing Club Adventures

Our drawing club has been a huge success! The children have engaged deeply with the stories and animations we’ve explored, including The Gruffalo and The Invisible String, as well as the classic animation Morph. They have created some really inventive and detailed drawings which they are super proud of.

Following their creative work, the children worked super hard to write sentences about their drawings. We are focusing on improving our writing mechanics, ensuring every sentence includes capital letters, full stops, and exclamation marks where appropriate.

Maths: Developing Addition and Subtraction Skills

In our recent maths lessons, we have been busy developing the children's core addition and subtraction skills. The focus has been on building a secure understanding of number and learning effective strategies for how to 'part' numbers (number partitioning) to help with mental arithmetic.

Cinema Visit

We were also super lucky to take the children to Vue Cinema to watch The Smurfs movie last week! The children were superb during the visit and thoroughly enjoyed the big-screen experience.

The past few weeks have been absolutely packed with joyous activities as we wrap up the term and prepare for the Christmas break. It has been wonderful to see all the children engaging so enthusiastically in every event.

  • Pantomime Visit: Oh yes they did! Our students had a fantastic time at the local theatre, cheering, booing, and laughing their way through this year's festive pantomime. It was a brilliant trip enjoyed by all year groups.
  • Christingle Church Service: We gathered for a very special and meaningful Christingle service. The children loved creating their own unique candles and learning about the symbolism of light and hope as we prepare for Christmas.
  • Christmas Party: The school hall was buzzing with excitement at our annual Christmas party! There was dancing, games, and lots of festive snacks for everyone to enjoy.
  • Visit from Santa: A very special visitor took time out of his busy schedule to stop by the school! The children were thrilled to meet Santa Claus and share their Christmas wishes with him.

We hope you all have the most magical Christmas with your families. We look forward to seeing all our children refreshed and ready for a brand-new year in 2026!

Rubies

As always, Rubies have continued to blow myself and the Year 2 team away. We have had a busy couple of weeks returning after the holidays with trips and nativity practice.

In phonics, using Little Wandle, we have re-revisited our Phase 5 sounds. It is great to see the progress children have made in remembering the multiple sounds that diagraphs/ trigraphs can make. They have worked incredibly hard at using their sound mats during writing lessons to ensure they are picking the correct sounds when spelling.

During maths we have focused on shapes. The children have done amazingly at remembering the names of common 2-D and 3-D shapes, as well as exploring irregular shapes. We have learnt about the vertices, edges, faces and sides of 2-D and 3-D shapes, and we did this by using practical elements to help us count them.

Continuing with our topic of Animals including humans, the children have enjoyed learning about healthy eating. We discussed the healthy food plate and learnt which different foods belong in each category. Then, the children worked together to make their own healthy eating plate using pictures of different types of foods. We discussed the importance of having a healthy balanced diet and what the benefits are.

In Geography we had a wonderful time exploring our local area of Swinefleet. The children all did us so proud walking sensibly, with their partners and following instructions. As we walked through Swinefleet, we recapped what the different types of houses are, pointing them out in the streets and discussing what makes them that type of house. As well as that, we explored the different types of physical and human features around Swinefleet.

In PE, with Hull FC, we have begun a new PE topic of gymnastics. The children are loving this and are really enjoying showing off their skills. They have started showing great knowledge in gymnastics by doing different poses with different body parts eg 1 body part (balancing on one leg), 2 body parts 1 hand and 1 leg. They are smashing it!

Of course, this half term, we have had the privilege of going on some amazing trips! During both trips the children have shown exemplary behavior and were a credit to our school. In the cinema, they were engrossed with the film and are still singing the Smurfs theme tune now! Going to Santa’s secret forest was a great experience for the children. Myself and the Year 2 team, were so proud of how they were on the journey there and back, and they had the best time seeing the beautiful lights on the nature walk as well as meeting Santa and his elves. They even told the elves that Miss James was on the naughty list!

We are so so proud of the children this half term, and they have shown that they are polite, well mannered young children who are a credit to you! Next up, nativity!

Diamonds children have been continuing to learn about the ‘Stone Age to Iron Age’. We have started reading ‘Stig of the Dump’ and in English lessons we have been writing character descriptions using ambitious vocabulary.

In maths lessons we have been learning how to add and subtract 3- and 4-digit numbers using column addition and column subtraction. We have been trying to remember if we need to carry across or exchange! We have just moved onto our next unit ‘Multiplication and Division’ and we have started identifying arrays. We will be learning all our times tables and using our knowledge during our ‘Maths Fluency’ sessions to answer 'quick fire' questions.

In Science we have started learning about ‘Animals including humans’. We have recapped all the different food groups and how to plan a balanced meal. We have also been looking at the nutritional values of different foods and understanding how certain foods should only be eaten as a treat. We will continue to look at our digestive system and we will be learning about our teeth and why it is so important that we should look after them.

In PE lessons we are now focusing on ‘Outdoor Adventurous Activities’, where we have been working collaboratively during team building activities and we have been making and reading maps to find different places on our school site.

On Wednesday 19th November we had a lovely morning at the cinema watching the new Smurf’s movie, which we all thoroughly enjoyed! The following day, on Thursday 20th November we visited ‘Santa’s Secret Forest’ we all had an amazing day! We walked through the enchanted forest to see Santa's reindeer. We then went on the train ride to Santa's workshop, where we met the elves and some were very naughty! After that we saw Santa's sleigh ready to be launched on Christmas Eve, then we visited Santa's post room before meeting him! It was a very exciting day.

December

We have had a busy month, finishing off our theme ‘Stone age to Iron age’ and we have also been working hard with our end of term assessments! All the children have had worked hard and you all deserve a well-earned rest over the Christmas holidays.

In English we have been learning about inverted commas, and we have been using them to write a narrative to accompany a short film with characters, Rock, Paper and Scissors. Over the last 2 weeks we have been looking at persuasive writing and we have been trying to give the Grinch reasons to enjoy Christmas!

In maths lessons we have been continuing to practise and learn our times tables. We have been identifying inverse operations using multiplication and division (e.g 7x3=21, 3x7=21, 21÷7=3 and 21÷3=7) and using our knowledge to solve problems.

In Science lessons we have been learning about our teeth and the part they play in the digestive systems. We have also been learning about the importance of looking after our teeth. We have enjoyed our ‘Outdoor Adventurous Activities’ with Hull FC, we have worked well in teams to solve clues to find places on our school site. We have made our own short animation in computing lessons this half term based on our Stone Age theme.

We have also enjoyed Christmas activities this month. We have visited the Junction to watch ‘Sleeping Beauty’, we had fun with a theatre workshop in school and we have made Christingles for our church service. We have also made Christmas cards and calendars to take home!

We wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year! From the Diamonds team :)

We look forward to welcoming you all back on Tuesday 6th January for our Future Me Day where the children will come dressed as what they want to be in the Future or they can wear a label with their future aspirations on. From the Sapphires Team!

Relationships Support from East Riding

We know that conflict is a normal part of relationships, and we also know that it's not conflict that is the problem, but how we deal with it.

Evidence shows that ongoing, poorly-resolved conflict can have a damaging effect on children’s well-being and happiness. The Relationship Matters website provides tips and support local to you and within the site, there are some great tools, such as the Amity's Little Book of Relationship Care, and links to a broad range of websites, including Mind, and the One Plus One site, which supports separating parents to handle arguments better.

There is also Separating Better, a useful app for families going through separation.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council - Relationship Matters

What is RPC? Parental conflict: the impact on children - YouTube Reducing parental conflict: why it matters to children and why it matters to services - YouTube Definition from the DWP: Conflict between parents is normal, but if exposure is frequent, intense, and poorly resolved, this can have a damaging impact on children, resulting in long-term mental health issues and emotional, social, behavioural, and academic problems as they grow up.
