May 2022

As we lament this week, this month, this year on the violence so prevalent in our world, we may be wondering as people of faith, "What can I do?" Although prayer is always a good first step, we may also ask God's guidance in leading us to act for change. Below you'll find some resources for getting involved in advocacy. As Catholics we have a responsibility to stand up for and protect the most vulnerable in our society, especially our children. As we enter the summer months, we also have some additional opportunities for direct service here in our local community. If you've been thinking about getting more involved, now's the time.

"What can I do?" - Resources for Advocacy

As we lament this week, this month, this year on the violence so prevalent in our world, we may be wondering as people of faith, "What can I do?" Although prayer is always a good first step, we may also ask God's guidance in leading us to act for changes in our public policy and legislation. That's where advocacy comes in. The following organizations offer ways to learn and act:

Catholic Relief Services

Intercommunity Peace & Justice Center

Pax Christi USA

United States Conference of Catholic Bishops

Washington State Catholic Conference

Homebound Eucharistic Ministers

Bring the Eucharist to those who are homebound or live in a nursing facility. Flexible schedule. Background check and safe environment training required.

Roles and Ministries in the RCIA
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.) is the path for welcoming people into our community of believers. We encourage those who are already members of the community to consider becoming a part of the RCIA or Family RCIA team. By sharing your faith, you will receive the gift that comes by helping others grow in theirs.

Sponsor – Serves as a living example of what it means to be a Catholic. Supports the candidate through the gift of presence and prayer.

Presenter – Shares experience. Facilitates discussion related to scripture, tradition, or formation topics.

Dismissal Leader – Accompanies candidates when they are dismissed from Mass after the

Liturgy of the Word (typically from November-March).

Hospitality Team – Supports RCIA team as needed. May prepare light meals or snacks for Sunday gatherings or retreats. Prepares meeting space to reflect liturgical season.

If interested in any of the above, please contact Morningstar at the parish office. We welcome weekly, monthly, or even occasional participation.

Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life

The Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life (SEEL) is a 9 month retreat format of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius that goes from September through May. It is a dynamic program of prayer, monthly communal retreat mornings and individual spiritual direction.

SEEL will offer a hybrid retreat in 2022-23 which currently consists of 2 in-person meetings (September and May) and online retreat mornings for the other seven retreat experiences.

SEEL is accepting applications now for the program starting in late September and offers the retreat at no set fee so that all who are accepted can participate. SEEL offers a gentle structure to help you experience God's love and discern God's call in your life. Join us on this transforming pilgrim journey!

Global COVID Response

In support of the Global COVID Summit, Catholic Relief Services is committing $14 million to the global response. “Right now, the world is not on track to prevent future waves of COVID-19,” CRS said in a statement. “For many countries, it seems like the virus is diminishing, but we have not done enough to prevent people from illness or death. There needs to be a refocus on vaccinations and improving health systems, or else we are going to be stuck in a nonstop COVID-19 cycle.”

With a focus on vaccinating the world, saving lives now, and building up global health security, CRS is committed to helping bring the pandemic to an end.

Please visit www.crs.org for more information. Thanks for your support!
