Bellerive Bulletin
September 27, 2026
Dear Bellerive Families,
This week we turn the calendar to October, and we finally enjoyed some cooler fall weather last week! With cooler temperatures come more coats, sweatshirts, hats, gloves, and other layers, so this is a great time to label your child’s clothing. If it’s something they might take off during the school day, please put their name on it so we can help reunite lost items with their owners.
We already have MANY water bottles and other items in our lost and found! I highly recommend using a permanent marker or a fabric pen like this one. A few minutes spent labeling belongings now could save you from having to replace them later!
We’ve made great progress in the first week of the PTO’s Champions for Children fundraiser! Families have already donated $1,941, putting us close to our first $2,500 milestone: a pajama day for all students.
As principal, I’m grateful for these donations because I see the experiences they make possible for our students and staff, from field trips to staff appreciation events. Thank you to everyone who has contributed! You can find ways to donate in the flyer below as we work toward our $7,000 goal by Fall Break.
In Partnership,
Dr. Joey Kneer

Habits at Home Due Friday
On our half-day earlier this month, your child brought home the first Habits at Home activity (linked here) for the year. These monthly activities give families an opportunity to practice the 7 Habits together at home.
We are adding a little friendly competition this year! The grade level with the highest percentage of participation each month will earn bragging rights and the traveling Habits at Home trophy. The Habits at Home forms are due the Friday before the next half-day.
For Habit 1, completed activities are due Friday, October 2. We hope you will Take the Controls together at home and help your child’s grade level earn the first trophy of the year!

Celebrating Fall
PTO's Fall Party Assembly
Students will enjoy a fall party assembly at school on the afternoon of Friday, October 30. The World Bird Sanctuary will bring live birds to Bellerive for All About Owls, a fun and entertaining presentation that gives students an up-close look at these amazing animals. This experience is made possible through the support of our PTO. Thank you, PTO!
If you do not wish for your child to participate in this assembly, please email Dr. Kneer (mkneer@parkwayschools.net) prior to Friday, October 23.
Bellerive Celebrations Combined with North High's Track or Treat
Bellerive families are encouraged to attend Parkway North High School's Track or Treat on Wednesday, October 21, and all the details are in the flyer below.
In place of holding a costume parade at Bellerive and rather than encouraging students to wear costumes to school this year, we hope families interested in celebrating Halloween will join us at this fun North area community event.
Dr. Kneer and Dr. Butler are already busy picking out our space-themed Halloween costumes to wear to Track or Treat!
Daily Attendance = Big Impact
Did You Know?
A day of missed school is a lost opportunity for social development. By coming to school every day they’re not sick, your child is gaining social skills that will land them their first job as an adult.

Proposition P Community Webinar
The cost of operating schools is rising faster than funding, creating a projected $75 million shortfall over the next 10 years. Prop P on the November 3 ballot would provide stable funding for Parkway teachers, classrooms, safety, and student support.
Join Superintendent Dr. Melissa Schneider and Chief Financial Officer Carrie Nunn for a Parkway Community Webinar to learn about Proposition P: why it’s on the ballot, and what passage or failure would mean for Parkway schools and our community.
Wednesday, October 7 at 7:00 pm: Livestream the webinar at https://pkwy.info/community-livestream. Can’t make it live? A recording of the presentation will be available.
What would Proposition P support in Parkway schools?
- Attracting and retaining teachers and staff
Safety and security
Classroom resources
Student programs and services
Long-term financial stability
Did you know that before placing Proposition P on the November ballot, Parkway reduced spending by $15.4 million? The reductions impacted every school and department budget, professional development expenses, and other operating costs. Further reductions would increasingly impact students, teachers, programs, services, and classrooms.

Bellerive Night at Shakespeare Glen
Free Tickets Available for Bellerive Families
Thanks to a generous donor, St. Louis Shakespeare Festival is hosting a "Parkway Schools Night in Shakespeare Glen" specifically for Bellerive and Pierremont Families for their upcoming production of Romeo & Zooliet in Forest Park.
This is a special treat for Bellerive, and we hope you will take advantage of this free opportunity!
What is Romeo & Zooliet?
Romeo & Zooliet is a vibrant family comedy filled with laughter, friendship, and larger-than-life puppets. The new and improved production features dazzling animal puppetry by world-renowned Michael Curry Design, known for its work on Broadway's The Lion King and Frozen along with Olympic and Super Bowl ceremonies.
This production tells the story of zoo animals mounting their own production of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. In this animal-centered version, the Montagues are herbivores and the Capulets are carnivores. Can Romeo, a prairie dog, and Juliet, a grizzly bear, cross the biological divide and become best friends?

Supporting Our Students' Well-Being
To better understand how our students are feeling about school, we'll be giving social-emotional learning (SEL) surveys this fall and spring to students in grades 3-5, as well as to staff regarding their students at all grade levels.
These quick 15-minute surveys ask students about important topics like:
How safe they feel at school
Their sense of belonging in our school community
Their relationships with classmates and teachers
Their overall school experience
What it helps us do: Identify ways to make Bellerive an even better place for learning and growing.
