Head Cheetah Message
Families,
November is here, and it will be a very busy month full of holidays and parent/teacher conferences. Additionally, there will be no school on Tuesday, 11/4. It is Election Day, and teachers will be engaged in a full day of professional learning. Then, on Thursday evening, 11/6, the PTO will host their annual Family Pasta Dinner & Raffle Night! We are looking forward to serving you. Hope to see you there!
If your family will be celebrating Halloween this evening, have fun and be safe!!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Joey

Orange and Black Day
Memorial showed their seasonal Cheetah Pride with an orange and black spirit day!
Cheetah Pride Assembly
Our cheetah mascot helped us get into the fall spirit with a spooky dance party! We also reviewed our month-long focus on teamwork, and introduced the concept of empathy. As we approach the holiday season, we’ll be discussing empathy throughout the month of November.
Seasonal Festivities
From fall festivals, to pumpkin investigations, to “spooky science,” the building was full of exciting, seasonal activities this week.

Library
...Hello Cheetah families!
It has been a busy fall in the Memorial School library! Students have been practicing their library skills each week and are becoming more independent library users.
We have a book fair coming up at the end of November, more information to follow.
See below for grade level classroom expectations.
PreK students will enjoy a variety of read-alouds and songs in the month of November with the themes of friendship and gratitude. We have been having fun with a new round of rhymes, including a student favorite, “popcorn”.
Kindergarten is working on discussing the relationship between illustrations and text. We will read Go Away Big Green Monster to aid in the conversation. We have also done lots of work around making predictions and inferences, as we read several squirrel themed titles.
First grade will be introduced to our school database Pebblego and which will be used to learn some interesting facts about bats and bears. We also have spent time thinking about strategies that can help us make a “just right choice” during book check out with the book, Goldisocks and the 3 Libearians.
Second grade will be beginning our unit on digital citizenship. We will learn about the types of information that are safe to put online versus what is unsafe; that we should never share our username/passwords, birthday, school, or address online. We will be using Google’s game, Interland, and a video called the Cyber 5. We have also been busy reading, Just Harriet and The Skull, which are both Nutmeg Nominees.
Third graders will be beginning our unit on digital citizenship. We will review the types of information that are safe to put online versus what is unsafe; that we should never share our username/passwords, birthday, school, or address online. In addition we will discuss what being a good digital citizen means. We have also been busy reading, Just Harriet and The Skull, which are both Nutmeg Nominees.

Notes From The Nurse
Hello from the nurse’s office! We wanted to take this chance to reinforce good personal hygiene habits. Personal hygiene plays a critical role in promoting a positive self-image and reinforces healthy habits. We encourage these good hygiene strategies at school and encourage you to do the same at home. The following are examples of good DAILY hygiene practices. Children of different ages need different things. Some hygiene habits are indicated for all students, and others are not. Please consider which tasks are most appropriate for your child:
• Shower or bathe everyday or every other day.
• Wash hands ALWAYS after using the restroom, before and after eating, playing outdoors, touching animals.
• Wash hair daily or every other day.
• Use deodorant or antiperspirant.
• Avoid perfume and other heavily scented products because they can trigger or worsen health conditions like asthma and headaches in sensitive individuals.
• Brush teeth twice a day and, preferably, floss daily.
• Wear clean/unsoiled clothes.
• Wear clean socks and underwear every day.
• Maintain your general health through exercise, plenty of rest and good nutrition and stay hydrated with water.
Respectfully,
Katie Williams, RN
and Ms. Michelle Lemire
