" THIS MOMENT CONTAINS ALL MOMENTS."
- C.S. Lewis
Good Afternoon, CUSD,
With only 13 school days remaining until summer break, our campuses are buzzing with final exams, award ceremonies, and special performances. Between the end-of-year celebrations (and the annual hatching of baby chicks in the Village first grade pod!), there is plenty of excitement in CUSD. It’s a busy season for staff, students, and parents, so remember to take a breath and enjoy these special moments!
It may be the end of this school year, but we are already planning for next year. Please make sure you REGISTER your child as soon as possible to help us plan for class sizes and assignments.
Speaking of next year, CUSD continues to develop a number of TK-12 pathways. Regarding our world language opportunities, we are looking for parent feedback. Please take a few minutes to complete our World Languages survey. Your feedback is vital as we plan for the future of our language programs. Please select the link below that applies to your family:

The CHS Islander Girls Lacrosse team continues to dominate the competition (beating Cathedral 21-4 in the semi-final game this week). The team will play in the CIF Open Division Final against La Costa Canyon on Saturday at 4pm. Details and tickets here. Let’s Go Nado!
As we begin the final countdown, as stated above, we encourage you to take a breath, reflect, and enjoy.
Have a great weekend,
Respectfully,

Ed Tech Parent Series
SDCOE is excited to announce the upcoming Educational Technology Parent Series, a free virtual learning opportunity open to all parents and educators across our region. This series is designed to support families and school communities in navigating educational technology and resources that empower student success.
As our educators, parents, and community come together to connect, challenge, and champion our students, we are humbled by the outpouring of compliments. What a positive testament to our CUSD family!
- Brittany Lindquist: She invited parents into the classroom for an interactive presentation/discussion about Portrait of a Graduate. She chose the 'Collaborative Team Player' characteristic as the subject. It was a perfect introduction for parents to not just sit and hear about POG, but dig into and brainstorm how they can be a part of the initiative, both in the classroom and at home. Brittany made a video of her first grade students describing what a collaborative team player meant, and then asked parents what they thought it meant, and then she led a wonderful discussion. Parents were engaged and excited, and many great ideas emerged. Brittany masterfully led the discussion and it was truly a glimpse into the promise of what the POG initiative can be in our district if all stakeholders understand and embrace the characteristics included in the portraits.
- Jeff Howell and his partner Emily volunteered on campus over the weekend in the garden and refreshed our beds, repotted plants, and generally spruced up the place! The bees, birds, and Voyagers are all grateful!
- Sheri Burkhart, our VAPA teacher, hosted our Silver Strand art gallery all day at the Art & Wine Festival on Saturday, greeting students, families, and admiring community members and showing off the incredible pieces our students create in her classroom. Thank you for your time and inspiration, Sheri!
- Our 1st grade team of teachers (Nicole Molyneux, Peyton Rial, and Kayla McElwee) organized a wonderful performance for families on Friday. First graders sang heartfelt songs and recited a poem about being ready for 2nd grade. Families were moved to tears, and the performance really highlighted how much our students have grown, matured, and progressed this year! Bravo, 1st grade team!
Click here to recognize an employee or volunteer who goes above and beyond to make a difference. Those who are "caught" will receive a copy of the positive words that were shared about them and a "Caught Being Awesome" decal. Please take a minute or two to brighten someone else's day!
