IB Family Fest
Mark your calendars for an evening of fun, learning, and community! J. L. Long Middle School invites all Buc families to our Family Fall Fest: Discover IB on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at 5:30 PM.
Come experience what makes our school community special as we explore how the IB framework helps our students grow into global citizens. Take part in a self-paced scavenger hunt where you’ll visit interactive stations, collect stamps and clues, and learn about the 10 IB Learner Profile traits. Enjoy engaging challenges and real-world connections designed for the whole family. Redeem your completed scavenger hunt card for a prize or a raffle entry! Prizes include Free Homework Passes, Free Dress Days, and raffles for Starbucks and Cane's gift cards.
Quarter 1 Report Cards
Parents and guardians, with the first quarter already behind us, please check your students backpacks and folders for Quarter 1 report cards. These will be sent home to you when students return from fall break on Tuesday, October 13th.
Attention 8th Grade Parents
As high school magnet application season approaches, we are excited to host our first Family Application Night, where we support parents as they navigate the high school application process.
This is a great opportunity to connect with J.L. Long campus counselors and staff to explore future options for your future high school student! Please email 8th grade counselor Ms. Perdetra Cunningham for more information (pcunningham@dallasisd.org).
Hispanic Heritage Final Week
VIP Buc Tours - You're Invited
We are excited to share that we are reimagining our traditional 5th-grade tours at J.L. Long this year! Rather than hosting tours during the school day, we are inviting our future Buccaneers and their families to join us for an evening VIP Tour experience. Our goal is to give families an opportunity to experience J.L. Long together, meet campus leaders, participate in a pep rally, tour the school, and learn more about our academic programs, Deaf Education program, course offerings, pathways, fine arts, athletics, and student activities before 6th-grade course selection begins in December.

School Wide Spelling Bee
Our Schoolwide Spelling Bee is coming soon, and we want to know: do you think you have what it takes to spell your way to the top? If students are interested in participating, they will need to please sign up with your ELAR teacher. The absolute deadline to sign up is Friday, October 16. Once students are officially registered, students will receive the official study list on October 19 to begin your preparation. The main event, the Schoolwide Spelling Bee, will be held on Thursday, November 12, in the school auditorium. We encourage all interested students to take part, study hard, and get ready to excel.
