MLC Through The Month
May MLC Recap
May was an exciting and active month at Big Mystic! As the school year begins to wind down and summer approaches, students have continued to bring enthusiasm, energy, and positivity to our program each day.
One of the highlights this month was Mystic Jogging Club, where participants trained and prepared for the annual Herring Run, a community race around the Mystic River. Students showed dedication and perseverance during practices and were proud to take part in the event.
Another popular choice was Photo Editors Club, where students explored online editing tools and creative resources to design their own photo collages and visual stories. Their creativity, imagination, and attention to detail were on full display throughout the month.
Students also enjoyed participating in the Wiffle Ball League, which provided plenty of opportunities for friendly competition, teamwork, sportsmanship, and fun on the field.
Overall, May was filled with creativity, teamwork, and memorable experiences. We are looking forward to an exciting June as we finish the school year strong and begin preparing for summer adventures!

MELC Through The Month
May MELC Recap
It’s been another engaging month at MELC! Throughout May, the children focused on geography and early American history through a variety of fun and educational activities.
One of the highlights of the month was Geography Club, where the children worked together to help draw a map of the United States. This hands-on activity gave them the opportunity to become more familiar with the country’s layout while encouraging teamwork and participation. They also played interactive geography games that helped them learn and memorize the states in an enjoyable and engaging way.
In addition to studying the states, the children were introduced to the original thirteen colonies. Through games and group activities, they practiced identifying and remembering the colonies while learning about their importance in American history. These activities helped strengthen memory skills and encouraged curiosity about the country's beginnings.
Overall, May was filled with meaningful learning experiences that helped the children build their geography and history knowledge while having fun. We are proud of their enthusiasm and look forward to more exciting discoveries in the months ahead!

He has been working hard on communicating with both staff and peers and has started using good manners more consistently, including remembering to say "thank you." We are proud of the progress he is making and look forward to seeing his confidence continue to grow!
Staff – Isaiah
Isaiah has been a valuable member of the MLEC team this month. He brings a positive attitude, energy, and support to the program each day. Isaiah works hard to build strong relationships with the children and is always willing to help wherever needed. His dedication, patience, and commitment to creating a fun and welcoming environment make a difference for both the kids and staff. We are grateful to have Isaiah as part of the MLEC family!

Recap of May Events
Sculptural Jewelry Making Workshop
In May, our community came together for a wonderful evening of creativity, texture, and color at a Sculptural Jewelry Making Workshop led by local artist Ilana Krepchin. Participants explored sculptural design techniques and crafted unique handmade jewelry pieces to take home. Thank you to Ilana for sharing her talent and guidance, and to everyone who joined us and helped make the event such a memorable experience.
Annual Herring Run
The MLC team had a fantastic time participating in the Mystic River Watershed Association Annual Herring Run! After weeks of training through our running and endurance programming, children and staff proudly took on the 5K, joined by Officer Mackenzie from Somerville Police Department. From training runs to a fun pre-race pasta party, the experience brought our community together through teamwork, movement, learning, and plenty of fun. We are grateful to Mystic River Watershed Association for their continued support and for making this memorable opportunity possible.
