The Association of Former Intelligence Officers Speaker Series Presents Internationally recognized photojournalist Jonathan Alpeyrie at KHS on March 21 at 2:00 p.m. in the Economos Lecture Hall
International Warfare: Drug Wars Supply and Demand
We are pleased to announce our March 21 Speaker Program featuring internationally recognized photojournalist Jonathan Alpeyrie, who will travel to Maine to speak with us in person.
Mr. Alpeyrie was born and raised in France and has covered 14 wars throughout his career. In 2013, he was kidnapped by Syrian rebels, and in 2015 he was wounded in Ukraine by artillery fired by pro-Russian forces. His years reporting from conflict zones have given him rare, firsthand insight into geopolitical instability, organized violence, and the human realities behind global headlines.
His presentation will draw from his powerful body of work, Drug Wars: Supply and Demand, a six-year exploration of the international narcotics trade across Latin America, the Caribbean, and the United States. Rather than relying on abstract statistics or distant analysis, Mr. Alpeyrie documents the landscapes and communities where production, trafficking, and demand intersect--revealing how economics, policy, and human resilience shape one of the most urgent global challenges of our time.
What distinguishes his work is a visual and narrative sensibility forged through decades covering wars, revolutions, and humanitarian crises. His photography does not sensationalize crime; instead, it captures the quiet tension of cartel-controlled towns, the fatigue of investigators at dawn, and the everyday humanity of those living amid instability. Paired with thoughtful analysis, his work challenges us to reconsider what the “war on drugs” means in the twenty-first century—not as a simple battle between law enforcement and criminals, but as a complex, evolving conflict affecting communities, institutions, and international policy.
While Mr. Alpeyrie is not a trained intelligence officer, his depth of field experience provides him with a keen understanding of cultural structure, power dynamics, and the global forces that link supply and demand.
AFIO members, guests, and prospective members are welcome to attend. A question-and-answer period will follow the presentation.
We hope you will join us on March 21 for what promises to be a compelling and timely presentation.
Thank you for your continued support of our Speaker Programs. Your strong attendance and engagement continue to make these events meaningful for our guests and our community.
The warning bell for block 1 on Wednesday rings at 8:55 AM and the second bell indicating students should be in their seats rings at 9:00 AM.

Improved Morning Student Drop-Off Traffic Pattern at KHS
We appreciate your help in transitioning to the new drop-off traffic pattern for students at KHS this school year. Based on feedback, we hope to improve flow by opening the bus loop for student drop-off. We've attached an image to this message for your reference.
As of Monday, January 5th, we will be opening the bus lanes (teal arrow P) at 7:20 am for student drop off. There are two lanes in this space, and we ask that students be dropped off in the lane closest to the building.
We also ask that cars pull up to the end of the YELLOW paint where one of our APs will be standing. This helps us keep the flow of drop-off working for those behind you.
Students (S) will follow the dark blue traffic pattern in the image below, allowing them access to the parking lot. Staff (T) will also continue along the student path to get to the staff parking lot.
** REMINDER: First bell rings at 7:40am. Students are expected to be in their classroom by the second bell at 7:45am. After 3 tardies per semester, tardy students will be assigned a 30 minute office detention ; Seniors in this situation risk losing senior privileges. **
Delay Schedule for KHS due to Inclement Weather
If there is delay called for Kennebunk High School, here are the start times depending on the delay time:
2-hour Delay - Block 1 warning bell rings at 9:40 and Block 1 begins at 9:45
1-hour Delay - Block 1 warning bell rings at 8:40 and Block 1 begins at 8:45
**Please note: if a 2 hour-delay is called for a late-start Wedneday; the delay will start from 7:45 am and NOT from 8:45 am**
**STUDENT PARKING PERMITS**
A reminder to students that drive a vehicle to KHS that you MUST have your parking pass displayed in the front windshield of the vehicle. It is NOT permissible to park a vehicle in the school parking lot without a parking pass displayed.

Honoring Military in Social Studies Classes
Hello to the communities of Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Arundel and beyond!
My name is Shannon LeBlanc, and along with my colleague Rebecca Moy, we are reaching out
for your help. This year, the 10 th grade students at Kennebunk High School are going to create a
memorial dedicated to former Kennebunk High School alumni who have served in the military.
Our hope is to create a student driven research project where they can connect with former
students from the high school and interview them about not only their experience at K.H.S., but
also their involvement in the military. The end product will be a slideshow that will be displayed
in one of the hallways of K.H.S. so current students can see alumni who have performed their
civic duty by serving in the U.S. military. The goal is to have a brief biography as well as a
photograph for each veteran. We would also like to potentially create a link on the RSU 21
website so that others can also see the result of this project. What we are asking is that if you
have any contact information for past K.H.S. alumni or their families that served in any branch
of the military (including Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, Merchant Marines, Navy,
Space Force, National Guard or Reserves), to send either Rebecca or I that information. It can
be either an email or a mailing address. We are hoping to assign students to various veterans
during the third quarter, so that they can connect with them and interview them for the
project. Thank you for taking the time to read this and please feel free to reach out to us with
any questions.
Gratefully,
Shannon S. LeBlanc sleblanc@rsu21.net

Junior presentation "I'm Almost a Senior"
Recently, school counselors presented “I’m Almost a Senior"(click link to review) to the Junior class to introduce students to a variety of post-graduation options through platforms KHS uses for the college application process, financial aid resources, and other important planning tools.
During the presentation, students completed a Career Assessment. Based on their responses, they received individualized career options, along with information about career outlooks, potential salaries, and required levels of education.
Juniors, please contact your School Counselor to schedule your Junior Meeting. Have a great rest of your day.

KHS LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP BOOKLET - To be released at the end of March
The 2026 KHS Local Scholarship Booklet will be distributed to seniors via email by the end of March. The booklet contains scholarships generated from the generosity of local private and public organizations, businesses and individuals. There will be a Class Meeting on March 23 during advisory to discuss the application process. Applications will be due electronically through Google Classroom by Tuesday, April 28 (the day students return to school from spring break). Students should review the Booklet as soon as possible as some applications require more work than others and should not be saved to do at the last minute. The application deadline is firm, so please plan accordingly if you are scheduled to be away during the vacation break.

Students 16 yrs of age and older interested in a possible career in construction
AGC Maine, The Construction Association offers two great ways to get your start in construction. This week they launch their AGC Maine Scholarship and Maine Construction Academy Immersion program applications!
Below is the link to the 2026 scholarship application for any student pursuing a post-secondary degree in construction or a construction related field. Students will be able to upload a photo, their essay, and a copy of their current transcript. Application deadline is March 1, 2026.
Also included is the link for the Maine Construction Academy Immersion Program. The Academy offers summer construction immersion programs for students that provide basic certifications and hands-on career exploration experiences.
