A Note from the Principal

As we welcome November, I’m taking a moment to celebrate the wonderful things happening at our school and look forward to all that the coming month has in store. A special thank-you goes to everyone who supported our Big Kahuna fundraiser! Your generosity makes a meaningful difference for our students.

November brings new opportunities for learning, growing, and making memories together. As we continue to build on the skills students are developing in the classroom, your support at home plays an important role in their success. Practicing new skills, talking about what they’ve learned, and especially making time to read together are simple yet powerful ways to reinforce learning and foster a lifelong love of reading.

Please mark your calendars for Parent-Teacher Conference Day on November 6th! This is a valuable opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher, celebrate their progress, and discuss ways we can continue working together to support their academic growth and success.

Thank you for your continued partnership and for being such an important part of our school community. When families and schools work together, our students thrive! Let’s make November another month of growth, discovery, and success at LCE! If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out. E-mail is the fastest way to get to me, and my e-mail address is sstjohn@lcmcisd.org.

A Note from the Counselor

Dear LCE Families,

During November, our counseling lessons will focus on Gratitude and Self-Control, along with Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind. Students will learn to set simple goals, make a plan, and think about how their choices help them reach those goals.

Through stories, discussions, and hands-on activities, we will practice showing appreciation, expressing thankfulness, and using kind words and actions. Students will also learn to pause, take deep breaths, and make thoughtful choices when experiencing big emotions. We’ll connect these skills to Habit 2 by thinking about the kind of friend and learner we want to be and the steps we can take each day to become that person.

First Grade Lunch Bunch will meet during students’ lunchtime on November 3, 10, and 17. Participating students with parent permission will practice friendship skills, taking turns, and expressing feelings in a small group setting.

In the spirit of gratitude, our LCE Food Drive will take place November 2–6! Families may send any of the requested items on any day during the collection week. Thank you for helping us care for others in our community.

If your child needs a visit with me, please complete the Counseling Referral Form linked below. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions or concerns at jordyndavis@lcmcisd.org.

Thank you for partnering with me to help our students grow in gratitude, self-control, and positive relationships!

GT Nominations

Nominate Your Child for G/T

Parents who would like to nominate their child for the Gifted & Talented program may complete the nomination form here:

G/T Nomination Form:
https://forms.gle/5tp4ohWc21FTJBAQ6

Kindergarten nominations are due by December 18.
1st–3rd grade nominations will be accepted through March.

Please note: A separate form for PLUS Class nominations will be sent at a later date.

How Are Students Identified?

The G/T identification process uses multiple sources of information to ensure students are assessed fairly. The process includes consideration for students with special needs, including students who are culturally diverse, economically disadvantaged, or have disabilities.

At least three qualitative and/or quantitative measures are used during the identification process. These may include:

  • NNAT3

  • TABS

  • MCLASS

  • MAP

  • Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT)

  • Student products or planned lessons

  • District end-of-year scores

  • Academic progress

  • Other appropriate assessment data

Once all required screening information has been collected, a student profile will be completed for each nominated student. Blind profiles will then be reviewed by the campus Admissions-Review-Exit (ARE) Committee, which will make placement decisions.

Placement Timeline

Kindergarten: Admission decisions will be made by February 26.

1st–2nd Grade: Admission decisions will be made after final screening information is completed in May.

For the complete Elementary Gifted & Talented Plan, visit LCE.LCMCISD.ORG and select Campus Documents.

Got a teacher who deserves more than an apple? A custodian who's basically a superhero with a mop? An office staff member who somehow keeps track of 500 kids AND remembers your name?

Here's your chance to anonymously shower our LCE staff with the praise they deserve! Submit a shoutout to any team member who's made your kiddo's day (or saved your sanity). Whether they've mastered the art of untying impossible shoe knots or performed the daily miracle of getting 25 kids to sit crisscross applesauce, let them know they're awesome.

Please use the link to fill out the form. https://forms.office.com/r/A0Bu7r9b6G

Because even superheroes need to hear they're doing a great job.

DROP OFF:

LCE students should be dropped off between 6:50 - 7:10 a.m. The tardy bells rings at 7:15 a.m. and instruction begins at 7:20 a.m.

Self-Contained (Life Skills) and second grade students can be dropped off at the front of the school in the mornings. Everyone else will need to be dropped off in the back.

Parents with both LCI and LCE students may drop their LCE student off in the LCE or LCI car line between 6:50 - 7:10 a.m. After 7:10, all LCE students are to be dropped off at the LCE campus.

For safety reasons, please have your child ready to exit the vehicle on the passenger side. Please talk to your child about what it means to be ready to exit the vehicle. Please also stress to them not to run but to walk safely.

Once the back doors are closed, you will need to drive to the front of the school, park, and escort your child into the building.

TURN RIGHT when exiting Meeks during drop off and pick up hours.

For the safety of your child and others, please do not use your cell phone while in the car drop off and pick up lines.

PICK UP:

The dismissal car line begins at 2:50 p.m.

Students cannot be checked out through the front office after 2:30 p.m. as we are in our final transition for the day. We will ask you to join the pick up line at that point.

The pick up line will run a little long for a few days, but after we get into the routine, it normally ends right at 3:10 p.m.

Please ensure that you are in line to pick up your child by 3:10 p.m.

If your child needs assistance to buckle, please pull ahead into the grassy area.

THE SCHOOL ISSUED CAR RIDER TAG MUST BE VISIBLE IN ORDER TO PICK UP YOUR CHILD. THIS IS A SAFETY MEASURE.

Dear Families,

We are excited to announce that we adopted a new form of school-to-home communication at LCMCISD called ParentSquare. This unified communications platform is designed to keep parents and guardians informed and encourage greater engagement and connection with LCMCISD. It provides a safe way for district administrators, school principals, teachers, staff, and parents to:

  • Send and receive school and class information

  • Share pictures and files

  • See calendar items

  • Sign up to volunteer

  • Schedule parent-teacher conferences

  • and much more . . . all in one centralized place!

Parents—Getting Started Video

All district and school, grade level and classroom information for next school year will be sent to your computer or phone via email and/or text. For even more convenience, download the ParentSquare app (available for free for iOS and Android devices).

Have questions? Click the question mark in the top right corner of the desktop version or the Help tab on the app (tap the triple bar icon at the top left) to find answers to most of your questions.

We are asking parents to go ahead and download the ParentSquare app to be ready for next school year!
