Week 4: August 31st-September 4th

Jag WireWeek 4: August 31st-September 4th

It's a great week to be a Jag! Thank you so much to everyone who joined us for Open House. It was wonderful seeing so many of our families on campus, meeting teachers, visiting classrooms, and getting a chance to connect. We are so lucky to have such a supportive Jaguar community, and we truly appreciate you being part of it!

It’s hard to believe we have already wrapped up our first Progress Report (PR1)! We have another busy week ahead, with MAP Testing beginning, Progress Reports posting, and lots of other things happening around campus. As MAP Testing gets underway, please remind your student to get a good night’s sleep and come ready to do their best with a fully-charged laptop and their charger. We’re excited to see all of the progress our Jaguars will make this year!

Monday also marks the start of our ID badge and tardy expectations. We want every student to start the day on the right foot, so please help us reinforce the importance of arriving on time, prepared, and ready to learn every day.

If you still need to purchase laptop insurance, this is your last chance! Clubs are also getting started, and we are excited to see students finding new ways to get involved and connect with others. Students must have parent/guardian consent on file before attending club meetings or activities, so be sure to complete the permission form for the clubs you’re comfortable with your child participating in.

And finally, don’t forget about our PTO fundraiser! Our PTO does so much to support our students and staff, and we’d love for everyone to get in on the fun. Every bit of support makes a difference for our campus!

There is a lot happening, and we are loving every minute of it! Thank you for continuing to partner with us, support our students, and make Sartartia such a special place to be. Let’s make it another great week!

Your Proud Principal,

Cholly Oglesby

Updates & Information Updates & Information

Progress Report #1

Progress Report 1 has been finalized and is now available in Skyward for students and parents to view. This is a great opportunity to celebrate your child’s progress so far and to set goals for the remainder of the grading period. We encourage you to take a few minutes to sit down with your child and review both their grades and attendance together.

Important Reminders About Grades in Skyward

  • Late or Make-Up Work: Assignments that are turned in after the due date may take 5-10 days to appear in Skyward. This extra time allows teachers to review, grade, and update the system accurately.

  • Reteaching & Re-Testing: If your child has participated in a re-test, those grades also follow the same posting timeline.

  • Grade Change Requests: Teachers are working diligently to submit grade change requests for any work that was completed after the original deadline. Please be patient as these updates are processed.

    How Parents Can Support

    • Check Skyward Weekly: Stay up to date on your child’s grades and attendance throughout the grading period and school year.

    • Encourage Accountability: Talk with your child about the importance of turning in assignments on time and preparing for tests.

    • Celebrate Success: Recognize areas of growth, no matter how small—they build motivation!

    • Communicate Concerns: If you have questions about a specific assignment or grade, please reach out directly to your child’s teacher.

    NWEA MAP Testing

Our students have begun taking the beginning of year NWEA MAP assessment in reading, math and science. Students will take the assessment three times a year to provide information about what students know and what they are ready to learn next. MAP also gives insight into how students are growing academically, allowing you to track your student's progress throughout the school year and across multiple years. Families will have access to their child's results in Skyward after each testing window. Students will be testing on the following dates:

    Testing Windows

    MAP Math: September 2nd-4th

    MAP Reading: September 9th-11th

    MAP Science: September 16th-18th

***Please remind your child to bring their laptop fully charged and the bring their charger to school.***

    PTO Fall Fundraiser

Our PTO Fall Fundraiser is officially underway, and we’re asking all of our Sartartia Middle School families to get involved! This fundraiser is replacing the Apex fundraiser we have participated in in previous years. By bringing the fundraiser in-house, 100% of the funds raised will stay at Sartartia Middle School, rather than a portion going to an outside company. This makes it a much more fiscally responsible way to raise money for our students and staff.

We have set a big goal because we have big plans! Our PTO is committed to supporting every student, every teacher, our clinic, Special Education, and programs throughout the entire school. The more we raise, the more we can give back to our Jaguar community.

Students can get started by visiting https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/peer-to-peer/sms-26-27-cash-drive and selecting “Fundraise” to create their own campaign. They can choose whatever fundraising goal they would like and easily share their campaign with family and friends.

And there are LOTS of opportunities for our students to win prizes along the way! From individual incentives and drawings to special experiences, we want every student who participates to have a chance to be rewarded.

Thank you for supporting our PTO and helping us make an even bigger impact at Sartartia Middle School. Every dollar stays here, and every dollar makes a difference!

      After-School Pick-Up Reminders

The neighboring shopping center has reached out to us regarding concerns with after-school pick-up in their parking lot. We understand that the shopping center may seem like a convenient location to meet your child after school; however, the businesses have asked for our assistance in keeping their entrances and parking spaces accessible to their customers.

If you choose to use the shopping center for pick-up, please do not form a car rider line, block the entrances or driveways, or park/wait in the spaces directly in front of the businesses. There are additional parking spaces throughout the lot that may be used without interfering with business operations.

Please also remember that this shopping center is private property and is not part of Sartartia Middle School. Our staff does not supervise or monitor students in that area, and we do not recommend the shopping center as an official location for student drop-off or pick-up. However, if this is the transportation arrangement your family chooses, we ask that you please be mindful and respectful of our neighboring businesses and their customers.

The shopping center has reached out to us in good faith and is hoping that sharing this reminder will resolve the current concerns. They have indicated that they would prefer not to involve law enforcement regarding blocked entrances, traffic concerns, or access to their businesses, but may do so if the issues continue.

Thank you for helping us be good neighbors and for ensuring that dismissal remains safe and respectful for our students, families, and surrounding community.

      ID Badge Expectations

All students must wear their school-issued ID badge and it must be visible and around your neck at all times. Students that have a lost or damaged ID badge will be required to purchase a new badge for $5.00. Charges will be assigned to the student's Skyward account and are only payable online. Payment must be received before the new badge is printed.

      Helpful Reminders

      • Store your badge at home in the same place every day or store it in your backpack everyday to help remind you to bring it to school!
      • Keep the photo ID inside of the plastic sleeve and keep the lanyard attached to the plastic sleeve.
      • Do not borrow or trade Student ID badges with other students.
      • Do not bend the ID’s

      PBIS Rewards

Sartartia Middle School is using PBIS Rewards to help us with our PBIS program. PBIS Rewards is a technology-based system that helps us with our behavior incentive program. Teachers and staff members will be recognizing students for meeting classroom and school expectations related to Accountability, Integrity and Respect.

PBIS Rewards allows teachers to distribute points to students when they are meeting classroom and campus expectations. All students have access to a PBIS Rewards account through Clever in which they can track their points and use their points on various incentives at school.

PBIS Rewards has a Family App that will give you some insight into how your child is doing with respect to our PBIS program. The Family App will run on most smart devices, including smartphones and tablets. You can find it in the iPhone/iPad App Store, Google Play, and the Amazon App Store. Just search for "PBIS Rewards Family."

Parents will receive an email this week with a unique QR code for your student. Once you have installed the app, you can scan the QR Code. Once you have done this you will be able to see your child's progress with PBIS Rewards.
We encourage you to talk with your student about what they must do to be successful with PBIS Rewards and to encourage them when you see them being successful.

      PBIS Store

Each month, the PBIS Store will open, and students can use their points to shop for fun items like school supplies, stickers, fidgets, candy, chips, special events and school spirit swag!

Students also have the option to save their points. At the end of each grading period, any saved points will earn 10% interest—a great way to build up for bigger rewards! Students points also rolled over from the 2025-2026 school year.

Items purchased will be distributed the during lunches once a month, so students can enjoy their rewards right at school.

Students and parents can preview what’s available anytime in the PBIS app or through Clever.

Hello from the Student Center! It has been a great start to the school year. The counselors have been busy balancing classes and ensuring that all students were scheduled correctly. Beginning in September, we will begin “Minute Meetings” to connect individually with students and support their academic, social, and emotional needs. We will also begin delivering guidance lessons through Advisory via PodTalks and look forward to sharing a little more about what we do with all of our Jaguars.

For students who want to change levels (AAC to On-level or On-level to AAC), the window will open on September 2nd and close on October 23rd. Students will need to meet with their grade-level counselor to receive the form. They can submit a meeting request by stopping by the Student Center to complete a form or by visiting with their counselor during lunch. Please see the FBISD policy for leveling down below.

      • Leveling down is contingent upon available space in the requested course.
      • If the student levels down from a weighted class to a non-weighted class, the exact grade from the weighted class shall transfer to the on-level course with no grade adjustments.
        • In the case of failing grades, teachers may assign alternative assignments in order to fulfill a grade change of up to a 70.
      • The student has a class average below a 75.
      • Requests for those with a 75 or higher with the intent to improve their GPA will not be approved.
      • The following must be completed before the submission of a level down form.
        • Student, parent, and teacher conference via phone or in person
        • A success plan created, attempted, and monitored
        • The student must attend a minimum of 3 tutorials
