KISD Family, KISD Family,

Welcome back! As we begin a new semester, I want to celebrate the everyday excellence that defines Killeen ISD.

First, 82% of our students had no disciplinary referrals during the fall semester. That includes even the smallest infractions – no tardy write-up, no dress code violation, no classroom disruption. Eight out of 10 of our students consistently do the right thing. As our campus leaders can attest, this is no small feat. Yes, there are students who don’t make the right choices, and we address those instances and students with care. But it’s incredibly important to remember that the vast majority of our students show up to learn. Students are our heart and soul.

Speaking of showing up, 75% of our schools increased their average daily attendance in the fall compared to where they were the previous year. That’s huge! Our partnership with parents plays a big role in making this happen, so shout out to the adults who are making sure kids are at school consistently and ready to learn. Again, it’s the majority. Our heart and soul.

And our teachers and staff are leading the way. Since August, we have presented 517 Heart of Gold Awards to employees who go above and beyond for students. Nominations for these awards come from colleagues, students and parents, and they represent what I see every day when I’m at campuses: people who serve kids with consistency, care, and pride. This is who we are.

Now, I want to be clear. We still have work to do in Killeen ISD.

We have goals we haven’t reached yet. We have gaps we must close. And we have to stay focused on students every single day.

But we also cannot lose sight of what is going right. The majority of our students are showing up. The majority of our staff are doing the right thing. That is the story of Killeen ISD, and that’s what we build on.

To our staff, thank you for the steady work you do every day. To our families, thank you for your partnership. To our students, thank you for showing up, staying engaged, and continuing to grow.

I see you. I appreciate you. I’m proud to serve alongside you.

Let’s keep going.
