Message From School Administration
Dear Lisbon Families,
Our wonderful community is rich with history, and we are excited to celebrate an important milestone in Lisbon’s story!
Did you know that Lisbon was home to Howard County’s first planned residential community in 1811? The Lisbon School House was built in 1840, and one of its famous alumni was Governor Edwin Warfield. In 1899, Lisbon became home to Howard County’s first high school, located in what is now Lisbon Park in front of our current location. At the time, the two-room schoolhouse had just one teacher, and students completed their high school coursework in two years!
By 1939, the school had grown considerably, with a gymnasium, four additional classrooms above the gym, and two detached buildings—one for kindergarten and another for woodshop classes.
The last high school class graduated in 1958, when the school transitioned to a dedicated elementary school. That same year, Lisbon welcomed Ms. Elsie Davis as Howard County’s first female principal! Early in her career, Ms. Davis earned $1,000 a year, plus an additional $1 per month for tending the furnace and sweeping the floor. She served as Lisbon’s principal until 1970.
The building that is home to our amazing school community today opened in 1976. And here is a special connection to our past: one of our current staff members attended both the original school and our current building! As a young student, she and her classmates carried their belongings from their old desks to their new desks as they became some of the very first students in our new school.
We are so excited to celebrate 50 years in our current school building tomorrow! We hope you and your family will join us as we honor Lisbon’s rich history and celebrate the wonderful community that continues to make our school so special. Thank you to our amazing PTA for partnering with us for this special occasion.
Join us tomorrow from 3:00–5:00 p.m.! The event is free and open to all. We look forward to celebrating with you!
With Lisbon pride,
Dr. Carr & Mrs. Conklin

Family File Updates
All families must update their Family File information every year. It is very important that parents update their child’s information. Family File directions are below!
Student Meals & Payments
For the 2026-2027 school year, HCPSS will be using LINQ Connect for all things food and nutrition. LINQ Connect is a secure, online portal that allows families to make online payments to their child’s meal account, monitor their child’s account, schedule automatic recurring payments, set up low balance alerts, submit a Free and Reduced Meals program application, and more.
Free and Reduced Meals-check your eligibility today!
Students whose families do not qualify for free or reduced lunch will be required to pay the daily meal price. Many HCPSS families are eligible to participate in the Free and Reduced Price Meals (FARMs) program, which provides children with a wide range of benefits including free or discounted college tuition, testing and application fees, academic and athletic program fees, and many others in addition to free or discounted meals. Families are urged to check their eligibility and complete a FARMs application as soon as possible. Families must submit a new application every school year. Details on the Free and Reduced Meals program, including a link to apply, are available online.
Student Personal Device Use Policy
Please read over the HCPSS Student Personal Device Use Policy here to find important information regarding student cell phones and other personal devices.

Related Arts and the Color Calendar Schedule
Students participate in Related Arts daily for one hour. There are five related arts classes: Art, Media, Music, Physical Education, and Technology. The rotating schedule is called the Related Arts Color Calendar and can be found in the HCPSS Calendars section above. We rotate days using the color calendar because there are a disproportional number of days off on Mondays and Fridays. Your child's teacher will share their specific Related Arts schedule with you and your child. It is important to make sure your child dresses appropriately for the classes he/she has for related arts, especially for physical education. Please see above for the Related Arts calendars.
