'Tis the season for giving. Wylie High School senior Sienna Whitaker is giving her pickup truck, Petunia, a custom-made bumper this holiday season. The best gifts are those that are hand-made and that’s certainly what Whitaker has been up to in her Practicum in Manufacturing class (advanced welding) this term.

First, she created an exact replica of the bumper she planned to make out of cardboard. Then, over the next few months, she manually cut each piece and welded them together to assemble the bumper.

“My dad helped me with some of the planning,” Whitaker said. “He’s really good at geometry.”

Whitaker has just completed her welding project.
