MUHS Community Newsletter
February 1, 2026
A Message from the MUHS Leadership Team
Dear MUHS Community,
This week's newsletter is a bit late. We hope you have had a restful weekend.
We have a half-day this week on Wednesday, February 4. School dismisses at 12:40 so educators can spend the afternoon learning together.
Looking ahead, February 7 is the first Success Saturday of Quarter 3. It's never to soon to catch up on missed work! February 13 is our Winter Ball, followed by Winter Carnival the week of February 16-20. (You can find more details about those events and others in our Morning Announcements, linked below.) That brings us right up to February Break (February 21-March 1).
Warmly,
Caitlin Steele, Principal
Ben Weir, Assistant Principal
Sean Farrell, Activities Director
Julie Pettis, Student Response Coordinator

Activities
Tigers Give Back
On January 17th, Middlebury Union High School hosted its first annual MAHA Night, a collaborative event between the high school ice hockey programs and the Middlebury Area Hockey Association. The event celebrated MAHA’s youth athletes by including them in pre-game warmups and standing together with the high school teams for the National Anthem before each game. The younger skaters were each announced before playing in a mini-game on the ice during the first intermission.
Most notably, the event raised $2,000.00 for the Derek P. Bartlett Memorial Fund. These proceeds will directly support community, educational, and athletic programs in memory of our beloved Mr. Bartlett, a dedicated educator and coach.
On January 19th, our girls’ basketball program held its annual Coaches vs Cancer game. The Tigers wore pink to show their support for breast cancer awareness. They raised over $1,200.00, which they have since donated to two worthy causes: The American Cancer Society and to former Tiger Riley Fenster, who is currently undergoing treatment for Leukemia.
On January 28, our boys’ basketball program hosted a Team Riley – Tigers Take on Cancer game. Riley is an MUHS alumna and a three-sport athlete during her time at Middlebury, including basketball. Riley’s mother, Katree, works in our district and she and her husband are currently traveling back and forth to Denver, Colorado, where Riley lives, to support her as she battles leukemia.
During the boys’ basketball game, there were multiple opportunities for the community to donate in support of Riley, including an online fundraiser that raised $1,810.00. Combined with the cash donations collected at the game, the boys’ basketball program raised a total of $4,500. When combined with the girls’ basketball team’s Coaches vs. Cancer efforts, over $5,700.00 was raised as part of our Cancer Awareness games.
We are incredibly proud of our players, coaches, families, and community members who gave their time and energy to make these three events so successful and meaningful. We appreciate that the Tigers continue to give back and support others, supporting the community that gives so much to its kids.
Thank you, Tiger Family, for an inspiring couple of weeks of generosity and support.
