Happy New Year!
Dear Families and Students
Welcome to 2026. As we begin the new year, I want to take a moment to celebrate the hard work of our students and staff. Thanks to their dedication and perseverance, our school demonstrated more than expected growth on the NWEA in reading across all three grade levels, as well as more than expected growth in math in both 7th and 8th grade. This is an accomplishment worth celebrating and a strong sign that our collective efforts are making a difference.
As we continue this momentum, I encourage families to support learning at home through daily check-ins with your child—talk about grades, schoolwork, and upcoming assignments. Additionally, reducing cell phone use at home, especially during homework and evening routines, can greatly support focus, well-being, and academic growth. Together, through strong school–family partnerships, we can make 2026 a year of continued growth and success for every student.
Warm regards,
Kim Davis
Principal
Transition and Welcome!
GVMS would like to welcome Ms. Scroggins as our new 6th grade Math teacher. She comes to us from Grand Junction and is super excited to meet our students and continue their learning. Please check in with your 6th grader about the transition. Feel free to reach out to her directly with any questions as she settles in.
Girls Basketball
Girls basketball began before the winter break and we have our first game this Thursday. 8th grade will take on Rifle at home and the 7th grade will travel. You can find the entire schedule on our website at https://gvms.garfield16.org/athletics
Grade Reporting
All quarterly and semester grade reports will be available through Infinite Campus approximately one week after the quarter ends.
In an effort to conserve our resources, we will issue paper report cards upon request.
Final grades should be posted by the end of the week.

Canvas Learning Management System
Canvas is the platform that teachers use to post assignments, resources, and grades. This is also where students can access these things, and sometimes even turn in assignments. Canvas support for parents can be found here. Follow the links for informational videos below.
